Aggressive All-Terrains... which one for my 2017 Pro?

Let me preface this post by saying that I absolutely love the fact that Toyota makes available a legitimate off-road focused truck in the TRD Pro. The TRD off-road that I previously owned is kinda / sorta off-road-able, but obviously not to the level of the Pro. Now, for the life of me I cannot understand the decision to include P-rated highway tires on the Pro!!! Now I know that auto manufacturers have been doing that since the dawn of time and I know the reasons why, but apparently Chrysler didn't get the memo when they decided to include LT-rated Duratracs on their Power Wagon. Anyway, I apologize for my rant, but I think you have an idea that those Michelins have got to go.

So, which aggressive all-terrain tire do I go with? I have narrowed my selection down to one of the following three tires. The size will be LT275/70r18 on the stock Pro rims:

1) Nitto Ridge Grappler,
2) Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac, or
3) BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2.

I previously ran the Duratracs on my 2007 Off Road and really liked them, but from what I am seeing on reviews the BFGs rate the highest. Do any of you have any real world experience with any/all of these tires and can provide some insight/Pros/Cons?

Cooper Discoverer AT3 is a great tire for A/T. All of my fleet vehicles run these or Duratracs

Cooper STT Pros are what my next set will be

I've ran BFG's on 7 different trucks. They do great everywhere and are pretty quiet. I've only ever gotten 1 bad tire that wouldn't balance. I'll probably be going with them again as soon as the stock ones wear a little.

 

Are you stuck on those three? If so then BFGs. Nittos even though they are a great all around tire they lack the aggressive look. I had the G2s and upgraded to the Cooper STT Pros and don't regret it at all

Nitto Trail Grapplers. Had them on my FJ. Handled great on the street, dirt, mud, snow. Hummed a little on the highway but not too bad. Just bought a set for the Tundra. I find something that works for me and stick with it.

 

I've run Duratracs for about the last 25K miles. 295/65/18. I don't have a PRO but I have the same 2/0 lift.

I also ran them for 130K or so on my last truck, no complaints.

 

I had ko2's on my old Tacoma and hated them, terrible traction in wet conditions. I then switched to cooper at3's and they were great traction, road noise, weight. I would have ran them again or any other cooper tire if they would make them in a 285/70/18 since that size was the only size I could clear with my lift (295/70/18 rubbed bad). I'm currently running Nitto Exo grapplers. They look nice, like the ridge grappler but do have road noise, but nothing the radio drones out.

 

I have BFG K02s and feel like my traction in sand, snow, and rain is amazing. I have Cooper AT3 on the 4runner and they are really nice too - definitely more of a street tire though, imo.

 

I have been running the BFGs for a long time and never any issues they work well in any condition. That being said the boys truck is getting some Toyo A/T next week they will be replacing his worn out BFGs so we will see how the Toyo tires do.

I like and run BFG A/T KO2 on both tundra and 4Runner.

Have ran BFG AT KOs on Jeep Wrangler and F350. I like them, but know many that don't

 

Cooper ST Maxx

 

I'd stay away from the BFG KO2's.....Yes I'm rocking the boat because EVERYONE has these tires now. I have driven on them since they were released. The price has gone up on these because EVERYONE wants them. They look cool. But that's about all I have to say that's positive. They wear VERY quickly compared to other tires in their category....and you'll notice they are one of the all terrains that don't have a millage guarantee....I'm betting it's because BFG knows they wear quickly. I live in Colorado so get lots of offroad time AND highway time. I also tow a travel trailer with them. I AM NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL. They don't handle as well as I'd like in wet conditions. They break loose WAY to easily offroad.....I've been offroading over 20 years. Heck, they break loose WAY to easily on dry pavement as well.....and set off my rear traction sensors which bugs the living shit out of me. I have run them at MANY different tire pressures to test them. My best friend has been running the FAlken AT3 Wildpeaks in the same conditions as I have and they have not failed him yet. I've driven his truck on them many times and they are AMAZING. Oh did I mention that the KO2s SUCK on snow and Ice?!!!! Yikes!!! The Falkens kill it on snow and ice, wet downpour weather, on highway AND are superior to the KO2's off road. Oh ya...they cost A LOT less...... I never took the Falken brand seriously till My buddy nabbed them..... Do a google search online with various offroad magazines etc for your self and then do a price comparison. Oh ya...... his tires still look almost brand new after a year.....they wear VARY well.............blah blah blah blah............ Or you can get some Grapplers like everyone else

I've heard really good things about the Falken Wildpeaks - That being said, I ran 3-4 pairs of Falkens in the past on small little turbo'd cars and the like, never had a set last more than 20k miles. I only kept buying them because they are cheap and are reasonably good street tires in the summer. I am anal about tire maintenance, proper air pressure and keeping up with rotations so it absolutely wasn't neglect on my end.

They're cheap for a reason - at least this has been my experience. It's very possible they've figured out a way to be both cheap and long-lasting, but I'm skeptical.

Toyo R/T or Nitto Trail Grapplers

 

Are the Cooper STT Pros considered all terrains or mud terrains? How about road noise compared to the others I have listed? I just want a tire that fully compliments the bad assness that is the TRD Pro

 

STT's are more of a mudder but not too loud from what i understand. Lots of guys on here running them. after hearing reviews from the guys below and some others i decided to read up on them. Every review i've read say they are fantastic tires for any condition. The only drawback is they aren't great on hardpack snow or ice. Other than that they measured up in EVERY other category. They are a little more aggressive than your traditional A/T but handle great on road too. You're in a PRO but are you doing much off road? I had to weigh in on how much on vs off road and i ended up with a hybrid for my first tire for this truck. I'm doing much more off road than originally designed so i can justify the STTs. I actually have one on as a spare with the intention to buy 4 more and keep a matching spare
