Anybody here get their tires siped at a tire shop? I have mud tires on my truck that were on it when I bought it. I'm worried about their performance on snow and ice this winter and curious if anyone has experience with siping mud tires and if it is worth it.

You won't get any place that will sipe tires after they've already been run on the road. It could damage their machine if the blades encounter any debris embedded in the tread or rubber. What I've seen with lugged tires that are sipped is that the lugs can "chunk" and a bit of the lug can break off. Mostly harmless I venture, but I would imagine that this accelerates tire wear too.

You can buy a tire grooving tool. They’re pretty cheap.

Mud terrain tires work well after being siped, but I would only do the center lugs and leave the outer lugs alone, especially if you tow anything. They will chunk out crazy.

In here to learn what siping is. Been awhile since I've come across a word in English I've never heard before....

Most tires have some siping, or “grooves” in the tires for traction.

Here is a good article young lady.

    Enjoy.
