I would like to get rid of the current battery hold down on the 1st gen, which connects to the top of the grill support. I would like to go to a new battery tray attached in place. Has anyone done this? Welded in?

And then use J-hooks to secure the battery, and buy a custom battery hold down available on the forum.

Has anyone done this? Advice? I would love your input. Thanks.

Not sure exactly what your asking, what is a new battery box? Just a battery? The tray the battery sits in?
If your just looking for the fancy hold down, just buy that and be done

Yeah, I hopefully clarified it above in an edit. Thanks.

I’m not sure how many first genners have done that, but if it’s the guy I’m thinking of who makes the hold down kit, I would reach out to him for more details, sounds like a lot of custom work for what your looking for

We're talking about it. The key is the battery tray, which looks like it sits on top of the fender well. A new one would need to be fixed in place (welded?) in order for J-hooks and hold down to do anything, otherwise, just a bouncing battery with a custom hold down.

What's the advantage of the revised battery tray/hold-down?

Advantages? Same answer as what are the advantages of half of the things we buy and do with our trucks. Vanity and fun.

The battery hold-down in the image attached is on a Tacoma. I love the look compared to what we have. This is likely the alternative to what I had in mind.

Coupe is the man! We've been talking and he is now designing a hold-down for 1st Gens and plans on doing a group buy very soon. We will need a minimum of 20 buyers, which seems very possible. Stay tuned.

It almost looks like you could make that Taco one work for the 1st Gen based on that picture. Might have to drill a hole on the frame (omg!). I, too, was curious about where your question was leading. Whats the price on this Taco one?

Coupe is going to design a battery hold-down to specifically fit our trucks. One question will be: What models/years have the same dimensions?

Not sure what price would be, but we'll all find out soon.

My angle of the dangle says... 27.391% more. And with a ‘group buy of 20 people’ we might get it for 9.372% less.

    PASS!:D
