Some background info: Soul was hit by a car/truck. Rescued by Stray Rescue of St Louis but when they took X rays the news was grim: a broken back that could not be repaired. Soul was humanely put down. His bonded female wouldn't leave his side even after death.

IMG_2559.jpg We had to put our dog down about 2 months ago. He was 16 and had kidney problems. The past year we could see he was slowly going downhill. Walks got a lot shorter. He would take his toy room to room trying to find a place to hide it. One day he fell down the stairs. That did him in. A few days ago we put an application in to adopt two dogs at a rescue shelter. Now it’s a waiting game. Getting teary eyed now as I write this. It’s hard losing a buddy.

We had to put ours down in March, the hardest thing to have to do. Miss him terribly! We have been discussing when to adopt another, don't think we are ready yet. I feel for your loss and good on you for adopting!

Yes, he was our camping buddy. We already canceled one camping trip. We’re going camping this week. I’m really not into it because he won’t be there. Hopefully I’ll hear something soon about the adoption.

We have had many pets over the years, all of them were recuse animals. Our latest addition was Thursday, we adopted a pair of kittens from a local rescue in town. The best part is 26 hours later taking one to the vet for an infection. Gotta love how they took the smallest elizabethan collar than had and trimmed it down to fit.

We have had 3 cats, all saved from life on the streets. The last one we got was just a little shaver that desperately needed some love and attention. We had to put our first one down a couple of years ago, and decided that we didn't want another one. So now we have two. They are the best and most friendly cats you could ever want.

Similar story here. We're on rescue cat #3, but have only had two at any given time.
They were originally for the kids, who have long since moved out and left the cats for mom and dad.
We lost one at a relatively early age due to kidney disease and the remaining two are getting up in age now.
I was never a "cat guy" growing up but man I'm gonna miss my buddies when they're gone.:(

The Wife and I go to Boxer Rescue for our Pups about half the time.
They actually come to your house to make sure your house/yard is suitable for Dogs!!
We always look for the White Boxers. They used to kill them so as not to screw up the breed.
    Jack Dempsey was a rescue...
It's weird,it's like they know you saved them from a questionable future.
They always act differently than the Pups you buy from a breeder.

I posted these two before. We had them about 4 weeks now. They’re on their 1st camping trip. They’re doing good. They still have a ways to go. They are still leery about coming to us when we call for them. Each day gets better. IMG_8682.jpg IMG_8685.jpg IMG_8686.jpg

I forgot to mention that we adopted them. They’re well behaved in the truck. And like walks once I get the harness on. They aren’t to fond of the harness. :) IMG_8691.jpg IMG_8689.jpg

Picked her up from a local no kill shelter. Just made 8 weeks. This was literally the first 10 minutes of being home. Mom came in pregnant and had puppies a day later. The mom had already been adopted and 4/5 puppies were gone. We took the last one. She’ll be 2 this January.

LOL....my Boxers used to love sleeping in the Liriope in our flower beds.
This of course crushes it making it pretty tough to keep their bed alive.

Heat index was close to 115 this day. She loves being outside, and I don’t stop her from being the sun bather she wants to be haha. I think the combo of the white landscape rocks in conjunction of the Liriope, made this an ideal cool spot to lounge in. I don’t have the heart to kick her out haha. She doesn’t chew things she isn’t supposed to or dig holes in the yard. Just like with kids, pick your battles. Haha.

We got our pup, Kaiser, from a rescue that does all the northern reserves. They literally get dozens of dogs of all shapes and sizes on the daily. Our guy, Kaiser, was found in a ditch at -30 huddled with his two sisters and his dead mom. He was the best guy for almost 15 years, it almost killed the wife and I the day the vet came to our house to put him down. We donate to every shelter and association that deals with homeless pets now. Still miss him every day.....

That is the hardest thing isn't it, to say goodbye. I had to put my Chessie down in 2012. I haven't had the guts to get another dog since then. I don't think I could face another goodbye. Sorry about Kaiser, he looks like he was a good and faithful friend.

It's tough saying goodbye, but look at it this way, you'd be giving a dog a good home and a good life.
