Since it was brought up and someone needs to be Debbie Downer I'll just leave this here. Cats usually kill at least 5 or 6 doves on my yard each year.

House cats are ecological disasters, for sure. Very cute, but still little terrorists.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
If I’m outside city limits I have a standing policy of catching or killing any stray cats I am able to. They’re little murder hobos and are effectively an invasive species.

They’re hard to catch so most get zapped.

quite unfortunate, but cats also get rid of house pests and honestly dont mind them eating the ocassional winged rat (common pidgeon). It's nigh impossible to suppress their instinct, but enough play and full bellies should keep it at bay. Dogs are no strangers at killing wild critters either.

Any overpopulation of anything is bad. Native species should be protected, no questioning that.

Control your animals. Pretty simple concept.

I like birds, I like squirrels, I like rabbits. Cats kill way more of them every year than human hunters. If I’m out and about with a hunting permit and I see a stray cat, that cat is going to end up feeding coyotes. If it’s your cat, then you should have controlled your damned pet.

I don’t let my GSD and Rottweiler run loose to chase or kill wildlife, if they did and got shot that’s on me. So why should cat owners get a pass on this? The answer is they shouldn’t. Period.

If I see feral dogs I treat them the same way, they’re quite dangerous anyway.

I ain't shooting anything that's not hurting me or mine. Dogs get loose sometimes. They don't deserve to be shot by a trigger happy "hunter".

Whoa there. You kill potential pets on sight while hunting? Do you even check for collars?

Our cat is an inside cat but we take him out in the backyard with us in summer. He has a harness with a 30ft lead on it so he can wander around. The only birds he chases are magpies, which is good because fuck magpies. I caught a mouse in the wood pile and showed it to him. Stupid cat freaked out and ran away. He's such a pussy.

Growing up in the country we always had throwaway pets. 3-4 dogs, and 4-5 cats. The cats were less of a mouser than our dogs. We had a rat terrier that would leave headless rats on our porch every morning. We're talking feed barn rats too.

Well fed cats will actually kill more than hungry ones. Cats that are hunting for food conserve energy and do not hunt as often as a result. The well fed cat hunts for the fun of it and will kill with abandon.

For starters I hunt on National Grasslands or National Forest 99% of the time. Very seldom will there be any occupied homes for miles.

1.) Step one see if critter will approach in friendly manner = tame = going to shelter or nearest ranch house to ask.

2.) Put glass on critter to see if there’s a collar. If there is and there’s a home nearby leave critter alone.

If they fail those two it’s bad news for them.

Yeah, we're pretty much on the same page. Human beings are the bigger problem and the animals get stuck with the consequences. As was stated somewhere above, hopefully all will be made fair at the end of the day. As for me, I'm reserving my extra ammunition for when the "real animals" become hazardous. I'm not gonna waste it killing something that I won't eat, or that won't eat me. Enjoy your coyote feeding while all the decent game retreat to more distant locations.:crapstorm:

For the record to put into perspective what I am doing here, in the past 10 years I have put down all of 3 feral cats, and 0 doggos.

A domestic dog that likes people and is abandoned will attach themselves like glue to you if they can.

It’s been a long long time since I shot a dog, and that was near a reservation that has a strait up feral dog problem.

I also take no pleasure in any of it, it pretty much ruins my day.

Well folks, I did some more brainstorming last night and I think I figured out another way to help out shelters/rescues in our area. The plan is to voluntarily organize/staff fairly frequent pet supply/food donation drives in and around our community. Labor won't be a problem. I believe I can get signage, supplies, etc. all donated or heavily discounted. I already own canopies, tables, chairs, material handling equipment, transport resources, etc. Just need to visit with the directors of our area shelters to get a better understanding of the current circumstances so I can plan accordingly. No doubt about it, there will be no problem finding places that will gladly host us. Should be possible to get a local radio station to come out, spread the word, and of course provide plenty of tunes. We might also invite some rescue groups to bring out some pets and promote adoption at the same time/location. As a bonus, my children and their friends will be off the streets and screens a little bit more. If you have any good ideas or suggestions to share, I'm all ears! I also encourage you to explore more possibilities in your own communities.:fingerscrossed:

Update: My 16yo daughter and I are brainstorming and thinking real seriously about taking this matter to new heights. Might possibly startup a non profit and not only proceed with the above, but also eventually have the ability to deploy nationwide disaster relief such as pet supplies, temporary mobile kennels, pet search and rescue/temporary care teams, human search and rescue teams utilizing rescued dogs, training and providing service animals, veterinarian services, and supplies for the disabled, a local rescue shelter/ adoption center, and setting up donation drop boxes/pickup routes at fire departments across our state. Probably going to be a little less active here in the near future as we devote some serious time into more research and meetings with individuals and organizations that can potentially be of assistance and also possibly become partners in the efforts. Not sure where it will go, but willing to give it a shot and see. Until the next update, you all keep doing your thing!

Our rescue. My local shooting range found him wandering around their property during Xmas. He’s been the best most loving dog with our other two. Our shelters are super full around here. I feel bad and wish we could foster or adopt more.

Learning a whole bunch of good stuff! Such as, how we can start up quickly and have knowledgeable and capable staff/board members relatively quickly by utilizing a fiscal sponsor to get things kicked off. Lots of grants are at our finger tips. Training courses for pet disaster relief volunteers are required and available online. Non profit training courses are available on the IRS website. Just all kinds of good stuff! Like I said, I will be cutting back here a bit, but I and my Tundra will be around. Thanks for your support and comments Adam!:hattip:
