Towing or not, my engine's coolant never goes above 194 even in 115F in austin. On the other hand, I don't need to tow anything to easily achieve over 240 almost 249 sometimes in stop/go traffic around town. There is no way to cool it down by using non OD gears (1-4), idling brings it down to 183 in a few minutes but it is tense for me.

So up to now, I do a drain fill every 3-5 motor oil changes but adding a 2nd cooler (maybe a hayden 699) might help this '15 unit. I've read pinning won't help my situation, is that correct?

    Are you reading pan temperatures?

You can try to pin it open to see if the temps come down, maybe the thermostat is bad and not fully opening.

No that was TC, but when TC gets that high, pan is about 220 yet after about minute idling at light, it may drop to 215/230 and so on after about 10 mins w/b back down to 183 for both.
