    Pretty things
Threads like this make me paranoid that I need a scangauge setup. At least when pulling the camaper.

...but then I'd be (justifiably?) concerned and have to buy more stuff :monocle:

i actually have a scan gauge its pretty convenient to see trans temps and correlate driving with the temps im sure theres gonna be a deal on em for black friday
    Typically run the guage
    Converter temp. Pan temp
    Coolant. Intake temp

It is an available X gauge. I think it’s listed in one of the scangauge 3 threads. I have it on mine. You have to manually input the pid.

I would try the X gauge pid on the 2, good chance it still works.

Everything I’ve read says it opens at 190-200ish. If you’re pulling hills for like 3+ straight minutes with an unlocked TC though the OEM cooler doesn’t have the capacity to keep it under control IMO. I’ve seen one other forum member install and 2nd cooler in series and it kept theirs well under control.

I pull a similar size trailer with the OEM cooler and the thermostat pinned open. If running long hills with the TC unlocked I’ll still see up to 220 in the pan. Anymore, that’s just cause I’m trying to use S5 when I should probably just go to S4. With the supercharger installed, not only does it have all the towing power I would ever need, but because it takes less throttle input to maintain speed the TC stays locked much longer. There aren’t many hills it can’t pull in 4th with it locked up. You can make lockup as aggressive as you want with transmission tuning though.

yeah there’s some long climbs of 3+ minutes the truck doesn’t have the power in 4th so 3rd kills the temps I did switch to a synthetic ATF which I was told has a lot higher temp rating so maybe I’ll just leave it as I don’t tow that often. I might re evaluate come summer in AZ when it’s 120 out lol

Now that I think of it the SG3 will find it automatically if you do an auto scan under X gauges. If you have an SG2 than I’d ask scan gauge for the pid, they have responsive service for requests for pids.

Trans temp options are there, but no lock-up status or current gear status. I sent them a request, will see if they respond.

I remember Matt @Black Wolf posted about a deep pan for the Tundra a while back.

I put a PPE cooler/pan on my truck....

Didn't need one, but did some research several years ago for a just in case scenario. Family owned business providing a decent option was my reasoning to originally post about PML. I'd call them. Can't hurt.

Might be a good idea to regear with 35s a bigger cooler along with a aftermarket radiator, i pull a 28' toy hauler and temps will climb fast (motor+trans)if i try using 5th unless going down hill slightly with 4.88 gears.20220723_060149.jpg

What water temps were you seeing?

I drag a 28' 5th wheel thru the smokies 2x/year. My highest water temp was 216*.

I wish I knew transmission temps. Not sure I care. I do a transmission drain and fill every year.

I'm never in 5th. The truck hums perfectly in 4th @65-68/2900-3100rpm. 9.5 mpg.
