Tried to get my tow hooks off today and it's not happening with my simple socket wrench. Will a 1/2" drive breaker bar work? Do I just need to invest in an air wrench?

The issue I see with this kind of mounting is the sway bar trying to shear the U bolt in this position opposed to pushing on the axle tube or pulling on the U bolt as the installation was designed.

Got mine installed today. What a difference! BAM had the cheapest price I could find.

    I t
I think rotating the brackets 90* absolutely reduces the effectiveness of the bar. Is it perceivable? I think I would notice it. It’s not a 1.5” difference. You’re moving the bar up about 3.5” and back 3.5 inches. The angle of the drop link matters. By moving the bar you’ve messed with that angle and not insignificantly.

And since the bracket still hangs below the axle when rotated, there’s only ~5/8” of axle ground clearance saved mounting it that way. I’d rather maximize the effectiveness of the sway bar than have the extra clearance. If I off-roaded enough that 5/8” mattered I definitely wouldn’t install a sway bar.

    My apologies for the necro-bump.

Any noticeable negative effect to ride quality by adding the rear sway bar?

It’s ever so slightly stiffer. I am very sensitive to suspension changes and I absolutely love the sway bar. It’s still very supple over harsh bumps. However I don’t think I would like it if I ever went to an E load tire. I have zero complaints about the factory ride with the sway bar with P load tires.

I barely notice the ride stiffness, the better handling and stability outweighs it. I'm definitely happy with it and I even install the front TRD sway bar.

nobody bitches about a stiff ride like me. I installed one and even with Houston POS segmented concrete roads couldnt tell a difference. Should be stock like transmission cooler.

sway bar need to be level and the end links need to be plump, if you have it in an angle, it's going to break later.

I'm set on ratchets, sockets, and impact wrenches. But I ordered a new torque wrench for the job. :)

Have now had my rear TRD installed for a day, very noticeable change for me as I drive a lot. Have the Pro suspension from 17 and before (Bilstein setup, not Fox) and they work together well. Will fork up for the front too. Was really interested in the Hellwig, has 3 settings and quick disconnect I believe. I have no garage or driveway or tools, but a shop did it for me for under a hundred bucks and less than an hour.

BA Mufflers is my guess, aka Dirty Deeds I thinks? I didn’t know it was an avenue for buying the sway bar, but I’ve heard nothing but great stuff about their exhaust systems.

As for cheapest price on sway bars, I generally check around to different dealerships. Mine was just about 200, free shipping. Can’t to a whole lot better than that, I’ve even seen used ones go for that

Bamwholesale is a website. I usually use TopekaToyota for free shipping and no tax but it seems like either a lot of TRD items for the Tundra are getting discontinued or are just out of stock. I had been stalking the TRD bar and skid plate for a few weeks and on the same day about 2 weeks ago, every single OEM Toyota website started showing them as no longer available right before the 10% July 4th sale. I ended up getting an RCI skid and the bar from BAM.

I traded a SR5 TSS for TRD Sport. HUGE difference in handling and ride on the highway...for the better. So glad I made that trade.

Um...no...somebody doesn't know their trim levels!

Beyond the front and rear sway bars and Bilstein shocks, it also has the 20" alloy wheels with all season tires, dual climate heat/AC, LED headlights and foglights, Smart Key , color match grill, hood bulge and front and rear bumpers, TRD Shift knob and of course the ever cool looking hood scoop.

Bottom line though is it just a much better driving experience. There is a reason they use the word "Sport".

The trim is SR5, TRD sport is a package
There are 6 trim: SR, SR5, TRD pro, limited, platinum, 1794. Package is TRD sport and TRD off-road

So from a driving standpoint - it has front/rear swaybars and shocks...the rest are just cosmetics/conveniences/features that really dont do much for driving..:boink:

I keed - As long as your happy with the vehicle, thats all that matters.

that 20" rims count too, for those low profile tires...

I think Lewis Toyota but can’t remember, but it was in Oregon. If I’m looking for a Toyota-specific part, I check dealerships because there’s always one with a lower price or free shipping or faster ship times. But that all varies it seems

Got er done this morning. Not a bad install at all. Wish I had a second pair of hands to hold the bar up to the U bolts but a waffle iron box and some duct tape worked lol. Went for a spin around my neighborhood full of broken un-even concrete roads. No squeaks or clunks and feels great. I've done beefed up rear sways on many sports cars but this is the first time on a truck. The frame bolts were no problem with a breaker bar and a little muscle, I'm sure it helps that the truck is still fairly new. Thanks all

I connected the end links first to the body, then to sway bar and use a jack to jack the sway bar in position to install the u bolts.

Was going to do the same but found my jack with a pool of oil under it. Probably still would have worked but the waffle iron box was right next to it lol. I'm slowly replacing my cheap tools with quality, guessing the jack is next.
