Installed my last night and tried it on the way to work this morning.

Seemed to work good and I was picking up HD stations. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Broke off second time through full service car wash. Theysent me out a one time only new one for free. Before I installed it I added some epoxy to concave part where it broke before and let it dry. See if that helps. Only $26.99 shipped if it breaks again. I will live with stock one if it does? Peace. D

Had this same one in the truck. HAD being the operative word. Antenna worked fine; unfortunately it did NoT hold up well in cold temps while pushing through a downed tree.

Now I have an antenna mount screw screwed into the truck and a kinda flexible antenna sitting in some snow bank on the road somewhere.

    Haha

Seriously though, how does one remove the broken off stud from the antenna mount hole??

VMS Racing makes quality stubby antennas. I’ve never had a problem with mine, any kind of weather.

Installed my stubby antenna this morning for the trip to my Mom's. 75 miles with one 20 mile stretch with mountains between me and the radio stations. I always get signal fade on this stretch and usually switch to music on my phone.

I have to say I was quite impressed with the stubby's performance on the trip today. Signal fade was really no worse than the stock antenna. No wind noise at all, even at 80-85. Weird not seeing the stock antenna out of the corner of your eye though. I'm sure I'll get used to that pretty quick.

    I'm giving it 4.999 stars out of 5. ;)

Zach - also curious on the revised 6 ¾” stubby. I have the original and love the looks. I’ve lost a couple of stations in some parts of my driving area. Get them back in others. Weak transmission signals I’d imagine.

I like the stubby style vs the thin whip-like OEM style antenna. I’d even be interested in a 8” or 10” *stubby* style if it would improve performance.

Any possibility of this in the future?

They have a wide selection. IDK if I want to go with the Arrow antenna or the shorty. Damn decisions.

I'm interested in picking one of these up, but my only question is, why the stubby over going with the stock style mast just in the 7" model?

Interesting that the late model Tacomas have everything in the "shark fin" (no mast type antenna)...I tried the stubby for a while and then ordered their 27" OEM style antenna because I lost too much reception. The 27" receives better than the stubby in my area, and does not hit the garage door. I guess I listen to too many "weak" stations...and the stubby was physically distracting to me whenever I looked to the right, where I don't even see the 27" style.

I lost mine (A010-TY) in a car wash today.. The plastic top came off the metal screw at the base.. I think I might find a different brand, or do the epoxy thing like you did..

I'm not sure why they list the '14 with the second gens but I believe that the 6 3/4" stubby is the same across the board. Maybe give them a call just to be on the safe side. I'm going on a year now and am still extremely happy with mine.

I just got mine yesterday. I mainly listen my iPod and the only station I listen to is classic rock WZLX in Boston. ZLX comes in clear as a bell in HD and I live about 25 miles southwest of the city.

Wondering the same thing. My antenna just broke off in the car wash today and the stud is stuck down in the hole quite a ways but not enough to thread a new one in.
And what’s the update on the best stubby antenna?

Add another to the positive reviews - I had an Autozone brand X stubby that worked fine in the city but where I live (30 miles outside of Houston), it was spotty. This thing works great even on HD radio channels. I also ordered the molding that goes around the antenna base. The original factory molding had disintegrated. Fast shipping and am happy with the purchase!
