A shot in the dark 2022 Tundra sale order

I put a deposit back in May (hence the order date) and got a call a week ago to place an order for the new tundra. I went in and all the dealer had was a sheet of the available models without much detail (except some basic details that I uploaded) and then was asked what I wanted. Watching probably 20 hours of videos of the release and walkthroughs, I narrowed it down to the Platinum or 1794, but ultimately decided on the Platinum. My only decision at that point was colour. For me, it was a decision grey, red, or the blueprint blue. I spent about an hour walking around the lot looking at the colours they had available and liked the blue, especially with the chrome, so that's what I did.

So did you custom order or just choose from Toyota allocation?
And I take it since it’s coming first it’s the non max version?

 

I custom ordered it. I’m sure they are getting allocated a number of models so I’m guessing that the dealership is saying “hey, why don’t we fill these allocations with models we can sell immediately” so I reckon people in the wait list are getting whatever they want. That said, I have no idea how dealership allocations work, so it’s all speculation. All I know is that I wanted a platinum crew max long bed in blueprint and that’s what was ordered for me

I haven't spent much time looking at 2022 specs so I had to look up the blueprint color. It reminds me of when I was with the fishing company we had a jig head color that was similar. We called it Blurple.

 

Oh man, that’s so funny because when I saw the colour through the videos, “burple” came to mind immediately. I have a Spyderco folding knife that has burple scales and the resemblance in the video was uncanny. Truthfully, it actually had me a bit worried but when I went to the dealership and saw the Blueprint Blue in real life on their highlanders, it was a navy. Only in bright bright sun could you even get a hint of the purple hue. I’m looking forward to it, but if I had my pick, I would prefer a bit of a deeper red or bit lighter blue. Either way, I’m excited.

 

Really like those new Platinum seats and the extra extender for legs is miles larger than current Plat seats.

 

Regular TTV6. The dealer had no info or offerings on the hybrid version. Initially I wanted the hybrid but I my current car is on 320k and on its last legs so I need something ASAP. I told the dealership that if the hybrid comes available in the next month, I want to switch.

"Pending Fulfillment" would taper my confidence in receiving that truck anytime soon. In the Gulf States region they are not allowing any custom orders at all and any prior orders were wiped because of supply chain issues.

 

That order you placed is def a placeholder. Didn’t know that was even legal. It’s def not legal in Nevada.

 

You say that like it's a bad thing. Eventually orders will open up and he will be first in line. What is wrong with that?

I’m not concerned about “getting it before anyone else” just that my current car is at 320k and need something before it decides to quit on me. What I’m after is that I’m in some sort of queue.

That’s fine - I didn’t sign on the dotted line anywhere so the lack of formality works both ways. It’s a place holder for the specific model I want which works for me. Once they pump up models and the queue is officially opened, I’m hoping to grab the keys before my current car is RIP.

That's pretty awesome you have a dealer at least willing to talk about it. I've called the 3 Toyota dealers within 200 miles of here and none of them will talk about allotments, options, let alone take a deposit on one.

All of them said basically the same thing...we probably won't know anything or take deposits until late October or early November since they are expected to arrive in December sometime. We can take you phone number and call you when we know more.

 

Yep. He can't finance one to call his until a VIN is assigned. I don't think production has even started yet has it?

 

Not much I can do about back door dealings so I’m not going to worry about it. I need a truck but that’s all it is, a truck. I was quick to the line because I don’t think my car will last much longer but I’m not going to get wrapped up in the madness.....that is until I see someone else in my city driving a CM long bed Blueprint 2022 lol

 

Thats for sure. When I went back in May, they were apprehensive about doing it. I said that “a friend” did it at another dealership and then they were quick to accept haha. It was certainly nothing official when I put in the deposit, and it still isn’t as I haven’t put my autograph down anywhere, but my name is in the computer for a model and now it’s in Toyota’s hands.

 

For sure, and nothing has been assigned as I think you’re right - either production has just started or is waiting to start. I’m just happy that some money has been exchanged and that my name has been linked with something on their end. I have nothing concrete, 100%, but I’m sleeping in a tent at the front of a line for the season ticket office to open up lol.

I put a deposit at cedar park Toyota. Never over MSRP. Good thing about the deposit is I get first dibs on any truck going to the dealership. They just go down the list and first to say yes gets it. Then once orders are open you can place your order.

 

I have done the exact same pre- order up here in Ontario. I was going to get the imax but decided to go with ttv6 platinum in blueprint. I decided to spend the extra coin on options instead, paint protection, etc. When i go to Toyota usa the platinum isn't available in blueprint but it is in other trims.
