Ha well I don’t have any experience with the 10kV stuff that lineman deal with. I had a plug coming off of a pivot panel (480V 3 phase) zap me once, I obviously didn’t get the full shot but it damn near made me piss my pants. Turns out we had a loose ground on the fert pump.

480 is a nasty voltage. High current/tight spots. Some of the older subs I dealt with were 4kv. That’s another shitty voltage.

This post makes me think about Electrical safety in our everyday lives. I believe statistically more folks are killed or injured yearly by 110-120 VAC than the HV. Also that overhead lines could pose serious dangers at home with the use an extension ladder, a tree pruner, or any overhead work. I would like to add to make sure all of your extension cords & cords on any electric tool are in good shape without nicks or splices, replace if damaged.

My Safety Moment for the day :) STAY SAFE!

    Very true statement.

Look at your breakers in your home. 20-40amp.

Only takes .25 amp to kill you.

When installing cutout fuse’s in 12.5KV, these were 8 amp.

    Sending prayers to the family.

Electricity has alway scared me. I'll take heights and flying over playing with electricity anyday.

You are correct and the reason is that voltage is so common. Your advice is sound. Thank you.

I don't have the pic but while in AK we had to go to a semi- remote building to install a radio transmitter. The building had no power so we went for a look around. There was fairly large power cable (4") running along the ground to the building. A grizzly had bit into it somehow. It fried right there. The head was smoked big time. Felt sort of sorry for it.
