Lovingly dropped in my driveway by my father in law last year. It sat untouched until two weeks ago when I put a battery in it and started it. It ran for roughly 90 seconds and fell on its face. Started the trouble shooting process by replacing the fuel filter and adding some gas treatment to the tank. Still nothing, it wasn't until I removed the filter again and noticed that the fluid coming out of the input side of the filter wasn't just gas, it had an oil gas like feel but was mixed with a lot of water. Dropped the tank and found my issue, the fuel pump assembly gasket had deterioated and was allowing water that made its way from between the cab and bed to drain directly into the tank. After draining roughly 10 gallons of water and what looked like 2 or 3 gallons of gas, remember this truck was dropped in my driveway. The fuel pump and assembly has been replaced and another filter. I have added two bottles of heet to help with any other water still in the fuel system.
The truck now starts and idles but definitely has a miss. I will be ordering a full set of coils and plugs to see if this fixes the miss. Then I will begin the task of going through it with a fine tooth comb. This truck will be rejuvenated and become my daily driver. I will add to this thread as I complete more work, along with more pictures as I get her cleaned up and ready to hit the road again.

It's literally never the fuel filter. Sorry you went through the trouble of replacing.

Get caught up, check in here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Meanwhile, hopefully you went with Denso on the fuel pump so you'll know it'll last, and it's of OEM caliber. On the misses, scan the codes and get back to us.

But seriously, before you start diving in, read the first two posts in that thread I just linked. It's going to serve you well on this journey.

I’m going to recommend checking the timing belt before any other thing. It’s the number 1 tundra killer

I'd say rust is the #1 Tundra killer, but you're 100% right from a mechanical perspective. :D

Absolutely OEM on the pump and assembly, ordered from the local Toyota dealership as well as both fuel filters that I ended up using. The filter really wasn't bad, I had it changed out within 15 minutes. Comically enough the parts guy at Toyota actually said it probably wasn't the filter, but I feel better knowing its fresh. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and tend to go overboard. Same with coils, will be ordered on Monday at Kerry Toyota along with plugs, oil filter, and air filter.

I am slowly digesting the threads contained in your intro thread. As I said I am a perfectionist and completionist, so I have clicked on every link in it so far. Down the rabbit hole so to say.

I've checked the timing belt and have a service receipt for a timing belt and water pump replacement at 290k from a local dealership, truck has 319k. No cracks or dry rot, looks good.

Thanks for the info and the welcome.

All is good news, what everyone wants to hear or have.

I’ve mentioned a few times before, but I prefer having a known baseline on everything. And it irks me if I don’t know where a previous owner got parts, knowing counterfeits are wild these days.

Before swapping the coils, knowing how long they often last, I’d do the plugs next. May solve your missing, will almost definitely smooth out running.

You can order denso from rockauto and probably save a few dollars. They literally grind the Toyota emblem off of them and sell them. Same as OEM. Probably cost less but can't confirm your dealer price.

Quick update. Had what I call a little blip (seizure) the day after ordering coils and other sundries. Have all parts in my possession and ready to bust it up this weekend. Hopefully clear up the miss and get her back to full running capabilities.

I will definitely keep Rock Auto in mind in the future, didn't really stop to think about the parts that could be available from original OE manufacturers on there.

It will be a while before I can test drive her myself, but I'll get a feel for her on the road from the passenger seat once she is up.
