Oh I get it. To be honest I learned something today. I would have bet my last paycheck that all states required insurance.

The three places with pretty cheap insurance rates are Montana, California (at least mine was reasonable), and Tennessee. Colorado has made me just want to move ever since 1997 when I moved here from CA. My insurance tripled.

Give it time. Before long we'll have idiots out there screeching that auto insurance is a right and should be "free" for everyone. :censored:

Right? I'm not sure one could replace a 2nd gen Tundra for that. Maybe...

I once did a body swap. Thought I was taking care well of my vehicle and spent so much money on it, so when it got wrapped around a boulder, I decided to buy a cheap donor and just swap everything undamaged into a new body. Spent 3 months basically living in garage. Had to buy lots of new OE parts, because my were K.I.A. and donor's were straight junk. Then the engine blew, I had it rebuilt. Then the transmission. It never really felt like the car I crashed in, was too old for any kind of surgery. And of course all of this never saved any money. Wisest choice back then would be to load it on a junk yard's flat bed, get $80, call it a good ride and move on.

I don't know how any state in today's economy could get by without decent insurance coverage mandates. Even TX needs to bump its minimum coverage criteria.

I lived in Michigan for a few years. They had "Your Fault" insurance. The discussion with my Insurance Agent went like this: Me, "If I just get liability and some one hits my car and is at fault, I get my car fixed?" IA, "No". Me, "Why do I even carry liability?". IA, "The state requires it ". WTF? To top it off there were only five rating zones for rates and you were by law not allowed to be more than one zone different than any adjoining zone. Since my zone adjoined Kalamazoo, which conveniently happen to be rated the worst, I got screwed living in the country with 20 wooded acres.

Uh... that's how liability insurance works everywhere I've ever been. It covers your liability if you are at fault. It's not to cover your stuff, but your mistake.

That's why it's the minimum most places. You can decide to not cover your stuff because it's yours, but you have to have it for other people's stuff if you mess it up.

If they hit you and are insured liability-only, it should cover your vehicle.

I think what he’s saying is it’s a no-fault state. When anything happens to anyone regardless of who caused it, you fix your own stuff. In that scenario, why do you need coverage to fix someone else’s stuff? Guess if you drive it out of state

If they are insured liability, it covers you if they are at fault. It won't cover theirs, though.

Liability is for other cars, not your own for sure. He’s saying why does he need it if everyone is supposed to cover their own cars? Should only need his own comp and coll.

at least that’s the way I understood it

He asked his agent if his liability would cover his car if another driver hit him. Answer is no. The agent failed on explaining why because they were lazy. The proper answer to his "why" would be "it covers damages if you are at fault. In the scenario of another driver hitting you and being at fault, that drivers liability will fix your car. Your liability would cover them if you were at fault."

Whether you are at fault or the other party, liability only covers your liability to others. It never covers your stuff regardless of fault. To cover your stuff with your insurance you need comprehensive/collision coverage.

Here in Connecticrap we are required to have insurance to register a vehicle. Since we are run by idiots, we are also Required to have uninsured motorist coverage!!! So we pay for everyone!
When choosing coverage, liability is the minimum you need to have, but there is no coverage where you don't pay for the uninsured. F'n BS!! If you want to choose liability and collision, you can't. You must add comprehension to collision. But you can add comprehension without collision! So, you cannot just get liability and collision for your vehicle. You can always get better fucked by insurance in CT ...that's a fact. I think it's beyond ridiculous that someone who lives here, and drives a vehicle, cannot just insure themselves according to their needs. And maybe other companies allow some flexibility, but the state requires all companies to add the uninsured fee to all insured drivers... BS
My vehicles are getting older and less valuable but my insurance is rising, how the F' is that the case! I hate living in a blue state for this reason.

I understand that but in a non no fault state regardless of my coverage if the other person is at fault my vehicle gets fixed. That how Ohio rolls.

Comprehensive isn't uninsured coverage. It covers non collision things like theft, vandalism, flood, fire, etc.

That's how it works everywhere. The at fault's liability insurance covers you in that case.

His convo was asking why his liability wouldn't cover him if the other driver was at fault. His insurance wouldn't cover it at all, the at fault driver's would. The reason to carry the comprehensive/collision and under/uninsured (full coverage) would be if the at fault insurance wasn't sufficient or if they were uninsured. Then your insurance would step in.

Red state here and required to be insured for registration purposes too. The Uninsured motorist coverage is an elective as is Comprehensive, but you'd be a moron not to buy it. There are so many uninsured drivers here it ain't even funny.

No fault doesn't impact vehicle coverage. That's for medical.

    I absolutely know that...
What I was saying is the uninsured fee is NOT a choice, it is added regardless of any coverage you have. Comprehensive coverage is automatically added if you choose to add collision coverage. I can't just have liability and collision. I can have liability and comprehensive without collision but I cannot have just liability and collision. The uninsured shit is always automatically added, you just have to make sure you select the state minimum or they'll automatically add the highest level of uninsured coverage ($450/per vehicle/per year).
    It's all a scam!

Uninsured is separate in Wyoming. Collision will cover you for uninsured, but then there is additional coverage through uninsured/under insured.

In this part of Canada I have never heard of anyone I know not having insurance or getting into an accident with someone without insurance. To me thats just crazy talk to run around without it, what if you hit a Ferrari and hurt the driver?!?! Naahh bro, get insured. Oh, and good luck with that repairs, that truck looks like it hit an IED, if you had insurance, you would be just out looking for another one instead of the humpty dumpty levels of repairs you are attempting. I think that Vehcor guy on youtube might shy away from this.

There's already two pages worth of flack for you having "unsurance", so i'm not going there.

It actually doesn't look like too difficult of a fix. At least from my computer screen, it looks like the majority of the impact was just above the frame rails (which is a very soft spot). Understandably the right-side core support frame mount has been torn off, but that's an easy fit. If that's the case, then all you have to deal with is replacing and lining up sheet metal. No doubt you'll need a new core support. You might also have the replace the passenger side structure most if not all the way back to the firewall? I'd inspect each and every spot weld with an eagle's eye before i would attempt this particular project though. Look for any cracks in the paint and shifted nuts and bolts. It would be easiest if you had a complete front end (all the way back to the firewall) from a donor truck. You'll for sure need a couple tape measures and possibly a few levels...preferably laser levels. Buy the nicest spot weld cutter you can get, and then go after it!

And with the belts showing on the passenger tire, it makes me wonder if the truck has been in a wreck before.
