As said above, some of us prefer to do things on our terms. That's all. If you prefer to wait until you might already be up to your neck in alligators and then have to fix things on your ride, be my guest.

I get that and replace the water pump with every timing belt change but I don’t normally replace fuel pumps on any schedule. I visually inspect everything like belts, hoses, ball joint and tie rods with fluid changes. After replacing 4 failed coils over the years, I just spent $200 more to do the other 4. Back around 120K miles I got the intermittent click of death so I put new copper contacts in the starter solenoid. My old Tundra has been a super reliable ride and never let me down. I plan to drive it another 250-300k beyond its current 250k. Frankly it’s a better platform for towing my wave runner than the 2.5Gen

Man if I could actually spend the money I'd be bringing everything up to date on mine as well.

Bilstein 4600s are a good way to go for an update on a budget. I had 4600s on mine for 150,000 and when I took them I tested them and they were still in great condition. 1stgenoffroad even sells a 4600 level kit. Replacing balljoints are a must if they haven't been done, especially the lowers. The tierods are not as necessary unless they have just gone bad. I liked the steering rack poly bushings and they were only $30. Leaf springs are expensive but ATS springs have good stock or extra load capacity replacement options. If you can afford it, I recommend a refresh on the suspension.

I'll have to look into those the ride has gotten...less than smooth over the last 15,000 miles haha
I've got the 4.0 as well and the only thing I've replaced is...the Alternator.
Ball joints are next once we move I think 170,000 miles is enough torture for the stock ball joints.

I finished my Bussmann auxiliary fuse panel this afternoon. Bought a sunglasses holder switch panel from B40Built on Instagram and I highly recommend checking him out.

I also snagged some 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks from a guy at work the other day. I mounted them on Saturday and they look tuff. They also ride and handle well for a big, heavy tire. Mucho better than the pizza cutters from before.

    A little rig update:
Wrapped up my bed rack build. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Learned some things for a v.2.

i picked up some Toytec Aluma coilovers that had about 2,000 miles on them as an upgrade to the 5100s. I much prefer the ride and handling compared to Bilsteins with the 2884s.

Grabbed a u-bolt flip with the archive garage bump stops. I really appreciate Eric's customer service. The USPS lost the package and when it finally showed up it looked like it had been dropped from a plane and there was some damages but he shipped out the damaged parts the next day. Solid product and he stands behind his products.

    IMG_1164.jpg

Finally, just for fun, I wired a voltometer into my cigarette lighter hole. I ran it to one of the switches to the left of the steering wheel so I can turn it on or off.

More upgrades very soon. Gears should happen before the end of the year and I am shopping for sliders.

Great build! So what gear ratio are you planning on? Any lockers or LSD to be installed while you're in there?

Love this thread!! It would be a cool read to begin with, but the fact that you're 16 and doing this on the truck your Grandfather gave you is SOOO very cool! Truck is looking good!

You strike me as an exceptional young man, and you're definitely doing Grandpa proud. :bananadance:

Thanks! @whodatschrome I am planning on 4.30 assuming I can find it. Those are hard to come by sometimes but it looks like East coast gears has them in stock right now. I am torn between a locker and a LSD. I like the ARB locker but I like the Detroit TrueTrac also. I am weighing my options right now. You don't have a recommendation do you?

A couple updates on the old truck. First is I rolled over 200k this morning.

    5DCF778E-47A8-43D0-878D-4478BFBDAC5D.jpg

Second is I have put 500 miles on my new gears and I did the break in oil change this afternoon. I finally landed on 4.56 with a Truetrac. I love how it drives. Gained some torques on the low end and the Truetrac is super capable. I went out to a place in Lago Vista to try out the Truetrac and there were a few places I was concerned about but the Detroit just plowed on through.

Gotta jack up on the axle to get all that old oil out.
    IMG_1503.jpg

Few tiny metal shavings but nothing to be worrisome about.
    IMG_1504.jpg

For a life update, I got accepted to a little school in Longview called Letourneau. Looks like I am going to go learn how to be an engineer. That means I need to get a few things squared away on the pickup before I go. Top priority is replacing the radiator. Denso discontinued the radiator for 4.0L :( so I am looking at the Mishimoto plastic tank.
    https://www.mishimoto.com/2000-2006-toyota-tundra-replacement-radiator.html
I would replace all radiator hoses, water pump and thermostat and all that good stuff at the same time. I was also considering doing the Hayden 679 axillary trans cooler and Derale 13011 thermostat and not connecting the trans to the radiator to eliminate any possibility of pink milkshakes.
    Anyway, y'all stay warm.
