I purchased a P238 for my wife and I liked it so much I decided I'd buy one for myself. It will easily hide better than a lot of Glocks, but will cost you more than most Glocks as well. Due to the cost of the P238, I decided that a more affordable choice for me was the M&P 9Shield (that also has a safety) or a Glock 33. Don't get me wrong, I love my P238 and would probably carry it over the others if it only cost the same as those.

I have a 238. It's my t-shirt carry. The safety sucks on it though. The Colt Mustang .380 extended safety will work on it. The colt safety requires a little bit of dremel work but works flawlessly.
    Safety: http://www.cylinder-slide.com/index...=CS0079S&sid=s8su64658o9a8mcc0hv3t5u50tu1l2ue

Also, I highly recommend you get the extended mag. It will allow you to get a full pinky grip and still conceals just as easily.

GLOCK fanboy here so it ain't hard to guess what I'm recommending. Lol! However, the S&W Shield sure is a sweet little shooter! My Wife traded her Ruger .38 LCR in for a Shield in 9mm and I liked it so much, two weeks later I had one. ; ) Simply put, you cannot go wrong with any of the modern, big name brands BUT as far as I'm concerned, you guessed it, GLOCK is the premier weapon, chosen by many and for good reason.

Anybody have any knowledge or opinions on the tp9sf by Canik. I've read some great reviews on this semi and has one hell of a price point. Just looking, as I am amateur at best when it comes to the specifics of guns. Thanks

I know you probably don't want to hear this but you should really wait, save up about $100+ more and get a good quality gun. Just my .02.

Im currently debating between a Sig M11A1 and a Glock G19. That Sig is so nice but so expensive.

Pretty much just home defense. I would carry if I wasn't en route to my new duty station in CA. I have a G23 which has been great but shooting a 9mm is so much cheaper and easier for my wife to get used to. Honestly the Glock is everything I need, but that Sig is so sweet.

What does she want? Mine chose a Sig 9mm.

I shot an XDm a few weeks chambered in .40 cal and it was pretty sweet. Probably the best shooting .40 caliber I have shot.

CA, that place has really changed since I lived there in the 90's. I went out in March for personal business and it was a joke on what I had to do in keeping a weapon inside my Tundra.

Good luck with your duty station and I thank you for the service.

I can't stand Sig triggers. Many can't stand GLOCK triggers. The Sig has what is referred to as a crunch tick trigger, I don't do those anymore, the '90s are gone. The first pull is a long DA pull and the rest are single action. The GLOCK has a mushy trigger but has the same trigger pull all the time. The GLOCK has NO external controls other than the mag. release and slide lock. The Sig may be the same, I really don't know. The GLOCK is lighter so if you plan to carry it, it could make a difference. They both have the same standard capacity of 15 rounds however, if you like, the GLOCK can be loaded with 17 or 33 rnd. magazines for fun at the range or a Hollywood shoot-out scenario. The GLOCK is VERY easy to take down to each individual part. This might not mean much to you but it does to me because I do all my own detail cleaning (once a year) and the GLOCK is soooo easy to disassemble and reassemble. Yeah, I'm a GLOCK fanboy. :bananadance:

I'm going to agree with @FumundaTundra and the triggers. That is one thing I hated about about my 226.
My Sig P938 is more of a 1911 and it is a cock and locked style weapon without the typical "sig" triggers. This one is very crisp and clean. However, this is a pocket pistol and is irrelevant to this conversation.

I'm a Glock guy too again. After a long break from them, the Gen 4 G19 is my new "to go everywhere" weapon.

This next weekend I have a shooting date with the wife. I'm thinking she is going to want a G19 as well. They are easy to shoot and shoot well.

I'm pretty used to the DA/SA because of my M9, but I still prefer a consistent trigger. Ive heard Sig triggers are better than Beretta but I've never shot a Sig before. Darn, I guess Ill have to go to the range and try them all out

That is probably best to go test out a few Sig's.

I had a Glock 21, 20, 23C all in a 3rd gen. The grip was just not right with my hand, and this was way before grip reductions. The last Glock I owned was in 98' and it was the 23C. Great gun but I just didn't Like the grip. One of my Federal Officer friends bought it from me and still has it today. That pistol is 21 years old and still is his daily carry weapon with thousands upon thousands of rounds downrange with it. I just kept my old 226 that was flawless in reliability for all those years after.

    Since then I have purchased:
    1911s
    XD in various calibers
    H&Ks
    Sig's
    Browning

I have to say, when I finally shot a G4 G19, I ordered one on the spot. If I had to drop everything and bug out, the G19/17 would be with me for sure (probably the 17 due to not trying to conceal anymore at that point).

This is EXACTLY what my set-up is. GLOCK 19 for EDC and the 17 for bug-out. Both gen. 4 as the previous gens. didn't fit my hand.

Most new shooters tend to work better with single action triggers. No long travel to get your sights off center, fairly crisp break to the bang. Non 1911 Sigs, Glocks, Kahr (my other carry piece) and any other SA/DA trigger gives too much time and travel for newbie accuracy. Once you get the sequence locked in your head, moving on is fine. For me, I got tuned to 1911s in the 70s, and never found an equal. Cocked and locked is a bonus.

Absolutely LOVE my 1911. Best shooting handgun I've ever owned right out of the box! If mine had a 3" barrel that'd be my carry gun.

Most unreliable POS I have ever owned. I would rather have a Rock Island Armory over a Kimber.

Maybe come bonus time in October I'll get ahold of a 5" 1911, probably one of the new Springfield Range Officer Operators. Quite a bit cheaper than the Kimber, $800 vs $1300.
