By that chart you posted I am technically a Millennial, though I have seen others that put me at the tail end of Gen X, and I am way more in line with your thinking. I hate debt, but I have leveraged it for purchases. Mainly transportation as I live in a state where that is mandatory and I have shit luck buying used and don't have the on hand capital to buy new outright. The point is that you can find likeminded people across any generational divide.

Toyota did really well with the Tundra last year. In Canada anyways.
Don't they offer incentives if there is a glut of vehicles like on the Rams?
    No supply problems there.

I wish I would have bought a new one pre-pandemic, but hindsight is always 20/20. Nobody saw this coming. Luckily I did buy my wife a new car in 2020, so we made out really well on that. Hopefully car prices come down soon, seems like they can't stay this way forever. The stealers are raking it in. I personally hate dealing with a car dealer. They are basically all the same. Most lie and lie and lie, and they use all the tricks in the book to screw the buyer and boost their profit. It just gets to me. Just tell me the truth, offer a fair price, make a fair profit and everyone is happy. I'm not against people making money, I just hate to be (or see people be) gouged just for the sake of it.

And if you get through the gymnastics with the sales folks, you have to be prepared to do it again with the finance folks. SMH.

Currently looking for a Silver Double cab 4x4 Tundra 5.7, probably 4-5yrs old max. Have looked at a few, been to a few dealerships. Its the same old thing, always. Most recent trip, had a young kid doing his best to sell me. They had an add on that they put on every vehicle, for $1500 (tire repair, windshield repair, lost key replacement, etc). Retail price of $2995 but "we give it to you half off". Told him I don't want that, its just a money maker for the dealer. He said its not optional, and why wouldn't I want it? I said, son I've been driving cars for probably 15yrs longer than you've been alive. None of what you are selling me is worth anything to me. I've never lost my keys in 40yrs of driving, and I always have a spare if I do. I got up to leave, low and behold he got his manager to waive it in like 30 seconds. Of course he had to tell me the have "Never done that before". But they wouldn't budge on the price so I gave him my offer and left. I was out of there in 15mins. I'm not in any hurry, I have a truck, and I know what I'm looking for and what I'm willing to pay. When the right one comes along hopefully it will work out. I'm really hoping to find a used 2018 - 2020 w decent miles that someone wants to sell, rather than trade in... we'll see. Most don't try and sell because they don't have an extra vehicle. A guy I know just traded his 2018 silverado in for $22k, it was loaded. If it was a Tundra I would have bought it from him. He got crushed on the trade, but had to have a vehicle to drive to work.

Another truck I looked at - the dealer told me the vehicle had never been wrecked and was a recent trade in by a loyal customer. I asked to see the car fax because one of the fenders didn't line up right with the door. I didn't show that it was wrecked, but it did show me that they bought it from an auto auction a few weeks earlier. I just don't understand why they always have to lie. And he was too stupid to even look at that.

Rates aren't too bad if you have good credit, my credit union has 5.7% for 60mos for good credit. I can pay cash, but rather not have my money tied up in a car - rather have it working for me and liquid. And with the way things are right now, the cash buyer doesn't really matter to the stealerships, not like it used to anyhow is what I am seeing.

I've bought two new cars in the last 13 months. One a Mazda for my son. Closest dealer wanted $3k than list, I don't care that they think they can get it. I wont pay and walked out.. Bought for list by going an hour away.

Bought myself an F150 at list as Tundras were rarer than Unicorns, and impossible to find unless you want an extended cab SR.

Both vehicles off the lot. Both vehicles at list. One with a trade in of 66% of new price after 5 years and 66k miles.

This is exactly what I did. A guy that owned a jeep dealership bought a tundra at a markup, drove it for 500 miles, hated it, and sold it to me for below MSRP.

Will be interesting for sure, especially since higher trims with digital clusters have been helped up in Qc since 12/22

When I bought in late October I went into dealer on a Weds to test drive, get a quote and was not prepared to drive it off the lot. If deal was true, I was going to drop a deposit check then shift funds over and pick it up Sat. The salesman took a post dated check and ran me thru finance to sign everything and on the road I was with it that night. Explanation: they wanted a sale 100 percent booked by end of month so they got max allotment the next month. My truck lagging on lot might cost them a hybrid or a TRD Pro they could rip somebody a new one on. So the old go in last Saturday of month may still be in play if truck on the lot

its by quarter, not by month. Most dealers follow the TMNA's fiscal year so quarter end would have been end of October, and TMNA creates allocations for vehicles the second week of the next quarter.

Then Oct was the end of the qtr. They were on fire to move trucks in the ground that was for sure. So Jan 31 is end of qtr? Look for unit on the ground and gonoress
So Jan is the end of this qtr? So if unit is in stock maybe good time to negotiate if there is such a thing now days.

At my dealership, if you want a Tundra they will do anything they can to move them at certain times of the month. All Tundras have to go where I work at as long as its physically on the lot.

If the truck was 10 years old yes, if under 5 years you should be under 6%. They are selling you to the bank

Worked for me to buy a car for my wife. I mean, I didn't get $20k off MSRP but I also didn't pay $10k over like some dealers were asking.

I have a guy that's been trying to sell me a new truck for a while. He texted recently and said they were offering some great deals. I stopped by and he had a couple of TSS 4x4 that he said he could sell for a couple thousand below MSRP. They'd been sitting awhile and I guess hurting allocations of the more loaded models. They have maybe 6 or 7 sitting on the lot including a Capstone. Probably still MSRP plus a couple thousand for tint, bed spray, or whatever for the loaded models.

Did you ever find a truck?
My thinking is super similar to yours.
