Most people don't drive on snow and ice.

Most people, if they are skidding, are only skidding because they are going way too fast. I can see ABS being a real benefit, at high speed, extreme maneuvering.

My issues with it have always happened at low speeds, slick roads, going downhill.

Well, now who is dismissing 'safety professionals?'

I agree with you, in general, I'm just saying the powers that be, did infact, study ABS and wrecks, and found a statically worse outcome for vehicles with ABS, than without.

It's not my statement, its those very same profesionals you where talking about earlier's, statment.

Because I know how to drive, or have been lucky, I've never once had my ABS activate in rain, or on dry pavement, or any other high speed situation. It may actually work just fine if you are speeding and suddenly need to steer.

This is specific to low speed, poor traction, where you normally would still be able to stop, but ABS prevents you from doing it.

Or in other words....this.....this right here, this is the difference between stopping safely, or sliding right into traffic.

I’ve written extensively on the topic both here and on FRS/BRZ forums where we’ve identified similar issue at high slip angles and high speeds.

Long story short, the ABS programming can’t always keep up or interpret the inputs so it defaults to an “ice mode” where steering traction is prioritized over stopping traction. Brake effectiveness is reduced to 10% or less so the tires can still rotate and steer, but you can’t stop for shit.

I toyed with the idea of an interrupt switch on the abs fuse, but didn’t want insurance to ever come after me for tampering with a safety feature if there was ever an accident on the road and they saw my wiring.

My default now is to remove ABS1 fuse as soon as I hit dirt so the system doesn’t kill me because I drive outside it’s programmed parameters. On the street the ABS fuse goes back in (when I remember. It’s been out for about two years now).

So is this more of a Toyota programming thing? I just haven't heard of this before.

I find it hard to believe a system designed to keep brakes from locking up is inadequate at interpreting the signals quick enough when that said system can cycle brakes more than a dozen times a second.

No, but she will if you keep driving near her without abs fuses.

Look, this isn't productive. I'm going to unsubscribe from any more replies to this thread before I land on "the list".

This is the point. I wont emergency brake. If someone did something dumb enough, i know to hit the skinny pedal & minimize shock. Bonus points if my bumper & skids throw me up & over.
