Hello all! Had a wonderful Labor Day tho I ate too much carneasada n drank too much beer. :drunk: Everyone getting their rigs prepped for the run? This isn't tough so the usual onceover should suffice. Looks like quite a few folks have decided to join me in Crab Flats for the night! For the ppl unfamiliar with the area, we'll start out at the BBDC, head east on 38, turn onto Holcomb Valley Rd.(3N16)by the dump access rd. There's a long stretch there where we can stop and air down(if you choose to). When pulling over anywhere along the trail, always leave room for an oncoming vehicle to pass. At this point we'll be at the eastern terminus of 3N16. Crab Flats lies near the western end. I'm not sure exactly how many miles it is(I'll set my trip odometer). Once we reach Crab Flats, whoever is camping will be done for the day. For the rest of you, another 4 miles takes you to the western terminus at GVL Rd. That's where you'll air up n head out back to the 18.

So. Just to clarify. 23 miles, don't know how long that is in off road terms. But will we stop and have lunch (picnic)? Like should I pack a lunch, ice chest etc?

We will stop at Big Pine Flats for lunch. Definitely pack an ice chest. Remember it will get bounced around... :eek2:
It'll be more than 23 miles.

Mr Porschetech is correct. We usually take a break and just lick our wounds (I mean trucks @Sunnier :boink:) and get some food in our bellies.

Or just do what I do and shovel mounds of Cheetos puffs/ Funyuns in your mouth while your driving through the dirt :eek2:

Unless @BestGen says I'm full of it, my guess @porkitt is not unless you park and leave your vehicle. That's when they'll get you. However, at $5 per day (available at most SoCal Big 5 sporting goods stores or any gas stations near a Nat'l Forest) it's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

So...one big group, regardless of size? No splitting up based on (perceived) ability?

Dude, I wish. I was online this AM trying to get sites at Yosemite. Fires or no fires, availability sucks.

I'm telling you.. My buddy booked the site 6 months ago lol.
Secret... You can call in 7 days ahead and ask if they have anyone cancel.. 7 days ahead is the key because that's when they give back FULL refunds..
I've had luck with booking that way before.

@sdde4n Thanks! I'll pick one up before Friday, the campsite was almost full but I was able to secure #7 across from the host. That's it! I'm committed.

It's required by the FS if you stop for recreational purposes. I've purchased them in the past but not every time. The fee goes to the local area so it's for a good cause.

As of now, yes. First off, I have no idea how many trucks are actually planning on showing up. Ppl need to check the first post. If you're going but don't see your name, lmk and I'll add you. Likewise if you can't make it, I'll remove your name.
As far as splitting up the group, I'm definitely not opposed to it by any means. Just need to know who'll be leading whom where… Any volunteers? I much prefer smaller groups tbh. It'll attract less attention from the rangers. Remember, this is a casual run, not an organized, for profit event.
