Very true. Only the leaf springs can compare, they got rebuilt/repainted at the same time.

Can you post some pics on where the bucket brace attaches? I’ll have to get this done sometime soon.

    thanks!

Sure thing, I'll be working on it, repairing it, today. Rough weekend out in Johnson Valley.

Here's the driver side. It's bolted through the shock hat.

3 ton Arcan hybrid jack mod. A new Pro eagle base AND the center bolt (not listed on their website) are required. Then simply choose which extension you want.

I believe that removing the front most crossmember that ties the frame ends together might not've been a great idea. There are some aftermarket bumpers that require this as well. But, given the way I drive off road I felt it necessary to add reinforcement back to the frame ends. The issue was the power steering cooler was right where I wanted to add a tube. So I created a different cooler using Howe Racing finned tubes and some 8-AN fittings.

Do you think the coolers get enough air movement when the skid plate is in place?

Good question. I don't have any empirical data one way or another. I believe since I never had any problems with the smaller OEM cooler which is mounted just a couple inches lower this should be fine. I increased the size of the cooler and volume of fluid. The OEM style has more solid tubing which dissipates some heat and I now have more braided hose which is an insulator. I've seen similar dual pass setups but I chose 2 single pass tubes instead. I considered stacked plate too but that would interfere with airflow to the radiator. I also added five 1.5" holes to the skid. I can still cut some larger holes in the skid if necessary but then I'd need some mesh or perforated steel to cover them.

Well, hubris and driver error strike again. Made a little mistake in Baja and destroyed the steering rack. On the bright side, I finally got an opportunity to have the Deaver 420 leaf pack de-arched a little and it's much closer to the proper 60/40 shock ratio that I'm after. I can't say enough good stuff about my buddie's shop in Orange, Baja Rex Motorsports. Funny, he's a couple doors away from where SSbuilt used to be.broken rack.jpg Leafs adjusted.jpg

I guess I don’t “like” this. Were doing something fun, and did anyone get a picture? I’m glad you’re not hurt; always better the truck.

Oh! Did you have a great time?!!

I saw this on the instagram, pretty wild to crack the steering like that. Joseph is an awesome guy. I'm looking forward to our bk2baja in Jan.

BK2 is a great group of folks, you won't be disappointed. Dustin and Kelly wouldn't let me stay at a hotel, insisted I stay with them 'til the next morning when I could go to Joseph's shop. His right hand, Tim is a really good guy too.

Nice rig, haven't seen it before. I've only done 2 runs with BK2 though.
Your 37s will come in handy. There was 1 Yota with 35s and he got high centered in the silt beds.....twice. LOL When he jumped out for the recovery he was mid calf deep in silt....
We drove about 15 miles, high speed and stopped at one of the 7 sisters. Wheels still looked like this:

No problem with the 17s, the silt is super fine, clumps easily but can't keep a shape

Didn't Joon do something similar in Anza Borrego a few years back? I remember it took all night to get it fixed, but not bad for a trail side repair!! (thanks to Oside)

Yeah, that was quite a memorable weekend. I believe that was the time where, before bed, I dug a hole in the ground and filled it with hot coals, rocks and a cast-iron full of beef and dried chiles and then buried it. In the morning we had some steaming hot Barbacoa that just fell apart when you put a fork into it!

I've been back to that great camp site from the 2nd night quite a few times since that trip as well. Not many people make it back that far down the wash, so it has nice privacy.

I'll try to keep an eye on Tundras.com more so I can join up with everyone for another adventure. Making some big changes to my rig in the form of a SuperPacific topper.
