Yet another build fail on my part. Tried to use ruff stuff U-bolt plates but you can see they're bending and I haven't even hit OEM torque spec yet. So, with only a couple days before the next trip I'll need to have new ones over-nighted.

Nothing is easy and when it rains, it pours.........oil......... right outta the brand new bumps. Another over-night order for Monday. Yep, that puddle under the axle is supposed to be INSIDE the bump.

Are your bedsides carbon fiber? Or is that just a play on the photo?

The bedsides are fiberglass with 2 layers of 3K 2x2 twill carbon fiber over the glass. It started because the front fenders were used, cracked and missing corners/tabs etc. I figured if I repaired the front fenders with carbon I might not have to paint and they'd be more durable. Spider cracks are VERY common on painted fiberglass fenders.

Sounds like a solid plan. How'd you like working with the carbon?

Surprisingly, it's VERY different from working with fiberglass. Bedsides are a bit too big for one person. But, all in all, it was fun and I'm now making/planning all kinds of tundra goodies in carbon.

Honestly, in large part it's due to the materials/methods the manufacturers use. With the correct materials and a proper layup spider cracks won't happen unless there's a huge impact.
On the fenders/ bedsides I have I see a lot of chop strand mat and a little super light weight glass. Something like a 17-08 biaxial cloth (that's a 17 oz cloth with an integrated 3/4 oz chopped mat) would hold up much better. But it's much more expensive and harder to work with.

Fiberwerks told me it is a 4 month leadtime for carbon fiber fenders and bedsides, so Warren might be getting more business.

Fiberwerx price for carbon, when I asked, is x3 the price of glass.

Double, $1100 vs. $550. I figured it might be worth it if I could run them raw.
