Yeah, he got it pretty good. I'm feeling like I got off easy this weekend, nothing a little time a BFH can't fix.

Buck Lake was a crazy trail. If the damage is only cosmetic, you got off easy.
Sorry I missed you this weekend, I had some family stuff to do on Saturday and Sunday, otherwise I would have camped out. Joon drew the short straw and drove me back out to my truck Friday night in the dark.

Dang. If your rear bumper took some damage can only imagine how a stock one would have fared.

I didn't get a chance to work on it today but I hope it's just a bent mounting bracket that I can "persuade" back into shape. Looking at the bracket, there's a spot where it should've been welded and will be soon.

You might say he was "spot" on. Yeah his great spotting made that tuff section easy.

 The tailgate opens again! After removing the bracket a BFH to the 1/4" steel bent it back really close to it's original form.

you guys running those bed stiffeners brackets ? would that make a difference as far as being able to close/open tailgate ?

I'm not running bed stiffeners, I think with the bed bars it would be redundant. The reason my tailgate wouldn't open is 'cause the bumper moved back and hitting the bottom of the tailgate when I tried to open it. So, in this case bed stiffeners wouldn't have helped.
This happened on our way out. I'd already driven this section of trail a couple of times w/o incident, once at 3 am. I came off a rock a little too hard, completely my bad, and pushed the bumper up and back. Had I been a little more cautious I'm sure I could've slid on the rock w/o damage,,,, maybe.

The truck's been looking pretty beat since our last BASTRDS trip to Buck Lake. Finally got a few minutes today for a buffer intervention. The door on the right has been washed though it doesn't look like it.IMG_20180721_123949456.jpg

Before on the right, after on the left. I'm using a rubbing compound and not polishing. No point in polishing anymore:anonymous: I'm thinking about what color the truck will be next since it looks like I'll be painting it.

I talked my other half into getting a 2001 black 4 Runner to replace a Chevy Cobalt as our other daily driver... and for me to take wheeling 5-6 times a year instead of the BFT (to preserve the inferno paint). I pointed out the 4Runner already had scratches and some light pinstriping, so whatever I added wouldn't be a big deal.

All good until I took the 4Runner out to play one time. :argue: Yeah, black doesn't look so good all scratched up. :crapstorm:

:anonymous: I'm back to the drawing board about how to go wheeling and keep the peace at home.

Primer grey is not a bad idea,,,,, for a while at least. You know, if you shoot clear over primer grey you've got cement...
Maybe a buffer and some rubbing compound ($150) could help keep the peace at your ranch. A lot more rubbed out than I'd hoped, still far from perfect bet here it is a couple hours later.

That looks pretty good! (since you're the one driving it. Not sure your other half would think this is good enough, if it were hers though). I know you're right about the rubbing compound + buffing... but that + time every time I wheel = $ 1200/year toward a new play vehicle....

Just back from camping with the family and wheeling Bald Mtn. My wife's first (and perhaps last) wheeling experience. I think she found it a bit boring just sitting in the passenger seat and would rather be hiking. She also didn't want to try driving off road. Can't blame her as there's a lot of red on the Bald Mtn. loop.
A washout was being repaired, thankfully right after the turn to Bald.IMG_20180726_124951170_HDR.jpg
Super smokey from the Ferguson fire but still worth the drive.

The next day Suzanne, her dad, sister and the beast, Zoey, hiked around the reservoir and called, as planned, for extraction. I didn't know that the route I'd be taking to get them was the beginning of the Dusy Ershim trail. I was super intimidated when I started up it. Later I found out the part I was driving was just a blue trail. Dusy Ershim is listed along with 5 other trails (Rubicon E and W, John Bull etc.) that are most likely not possible in my truck, hence the tight sphincter when I turned onto it. Zoey was glad to hop in the truck after her long hike.

    Man
Wrapping it would be nice but it's expensive! I've been quoted $3-$4k....... I think I can prep and spray it myself for less than $500. I can't wait to see @froggy78 's ride. He's up at Bald Mtn. right now and just finished wrapping AND doing LT on his ride. We should start seeing some pics tonight or tomorrow of the BASTRD -1 trip...:( :D
