What???? I have a captain's license and I think it's nearly impossible to have one and not be able to sew? You know, sailors sew and some of them are prrettty frickin' manly. Not me, but some of them.:anonymous:

I found this "used" Smittybilt trailer on CL at a price my wife couldn't pass up. So, instead of going north to camp as planned we went south 5 hrs and picked it up. Then we drove up HWY 33 and started looking for a place to camp. Thanks @Sunnier and @dcsleeper408 for the suggestions. It was around 9:30 when we finally settled on a spot on Pine Mountain. Setting up the RTT in the dark and for the first time was incredibly fast and easy. The RTT which came with the trailer sleeps 3 but with a thick matt the truck bed isn't too bad. It was really cold and windy and I felt bad for our Daneiff (Great Dane/ Mastiff) with her short hair so I let her sleep back there with me.... great for her..... not so much for me.
When I got up we were in the clouds,,, literally.

Thankfully it wasn't long before the sun came out.IMG_20180527_090407965 (1).jpg
Next day we went to Lopez Falls in Santa Maria. Crossing the water, which you do about 7 times, looks really cool in the head unit thanks to @TundraTex and his FRAC harness.IMG_20180527_171249757.jpg
After Lopez Falls, since we couldn't camp there, we headed to Fort Hunter Ligget and camped at Indians where we've camped before in the past. Actually, the last time I was pulled over was Memorial Day several years ago for speeding on the base. The officer was really nice and was more concerned about drunk drivers. He let me go with a warning. This weekend I was happy to comply with the speed limit.

Does the tent rock around at all since it’s on the trailer?

It's similar to having the tent on the truck. There are jack stands on the rear corners and the front jack helps but yes, it moves a little when a 140lb dog is in the back of the truck moving around. I found it moves in the middle of the night too with the dog tied to the sliders. When she pulls, things move.:notsure:

I definitely got lucky. I guess some days the sun shines on a dog's ass too.
I just mentioned Moab to Suzanne about an hour ago. She's up for it just doesn't want to get "crazy."

It's a Smitty RTT but the reg. not the large...... Means I'm sleeping in the truck bed. It seems great, rugged and super easy. I'm not sure if it comes with the strip light that ours has or if that's an add on. I'm gonna buy the annex for it so I can sleep downstairs, the girls up stairs and the dogs in the truck.

    it says:

    "
The Smittybilt XL Overlander Tent weights only 148 lbs, and has a 770 lb load capacity so it can sleep four on its 92.5x74.8 mattress.

*Smittybilt's XL tent is for trailer use only and not compatible with SRC cage kits."

I think if you have a good bed rack It should work, just not the SRC they advertise for. I think.

I’d think so too, especially since some of the big ass FSR tents are shown on their site on bed racks.

Yep, that's why I can't figure out why they say not.... I guess if they make my final cut (price is pretty great), I'll hafta ask 'em.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work on a bed rack? In fact, I'm sure it would and am planning on using it that way. I have no experience with RTTs so I can't compare. But this is WAY more rugged than a regular tent, more comfortable, (has a nice mat) faster to set up and super easy. I kid you not, my 15yr old daughter and I did it in under 5 min. for out first time and in the dark. Ya pretty much pull off the cover, remove velcro straps and unfold..... wallah!

I bet they only test fit em on their “approved” rack and maybe a few others. Is the SRC rack a Smittybilt product?

Hmmn, dunno. Seems like 3 Relentless bars (or any other :muscleflexing: rack) would hold up to this. I've looked at hard shell RTT's that weigh more, and there's no 'trailers only' restriction.

That whole ‘Trailer Only’ thing is lawyer speak to keep dumbasses who can’t drive an suv from suing when they flip their shit.

Also, Moab. Let’s go! I have a pretty extensive list of trails and a handful of campsites on BLM land. Just tell me when we wanna go and I’m down! I assume a week in order to make it worth the trip.
