Great first post... Your missing the point, oil loss/consumption is not the issue with this. These are new trucks and trucks still under warranty. Oh and it drips on the exhaust manifold.o_O

Spray it down with carb cleaner, it will run down and leave residue on the bottom of the tab appearing to be a drip then wait a week for it to seep again the oil will still be present on the bottom of the tab, instant warranty approval... ask me how i know.

Spending that much money on a vehicle, it should not leak before 75K. Yes, over time all vehicles develop leaks but c'mon, not at 8K.

If this is the case, Toyota has serious quality control issues.

Toyota could actually design a real seal to use here instead of a form-in-place gasket material. Stupid design that would be extremely easy to fix on their part.

Just looked at mine tonight have 91k on my 2013 rock warrior and have it on the driver side. Now I no why I smell oil burn smell at times when I hit the interstate when I get back home. Almost looks like a vavle cover gasket but by the pictures posted it must definitely be the cam tower. Thank you guys for the information I just bought it last year actually on 12-18-17. But I got a premier classic warranty through the dealership that last four years or 48000 miles and have a deductible of $100. It’s supposed to cover everything I wonder if it’ll cover that has anybody else had that warranty coverage I wasn’t going to get it but they kept pushing it on me and I got him down to where it was only cost me like $1.25 more A month On my payment.

Damn it! This thread made me get out of my recliner and go to the garage for an inspection. Luckily no leak that I can see at 11k miles.

If there's one thing I've learned on automotive forums, it's that way more people post problems than people who post all is well. So how common is this problem? Just because 8 out of 15 on a lot supposedly had leaks, doesn't mean that ~50% of 5.7's will leak. If the ratio was really that high, surely Toyota would have fixed the problem by now.

I would not be surprised if the ratio was that high. Most people never look at their trucks. I can see mechanics not seeing it too. I saw my leak rotating my tires. The 4.6 engines leak also. Mine is a 4.6.

Sorry to hear that. Hope they do both sides, and that you get a master tech that’s done cam towers before.

If all I see is the tiniest spec of residue like in some of those 1st pics I’m definitely not taking my truck in to have the engine torn apart.

This. I'd be more worried about what the idiots at the dealership might break while tearing it apart than that oil.

Is this something that is covered by the 60,000 powertrain warranty or just the 30,000?

Just found my passenger side leaking a lot of oil. Very steady drops each day. My 2015 Tundra CM has 71k. I bought the extended warranty. Is this still covered? What is the process to file a warranty claim?

Hello All. To help support our Tundra community, would everyone who is having this issue share 1-2 clear photos of the leaking on their trucks? This is clearly a fairly common owner concern and anything/all we can do help each other would be great! My truck only has 600 miles so no leaks here but added photos nonetheless.

There are plenty of pictures of this leak on the other CAM tower leak threads on this site as well as around the internet in general.

They gave me a loaner - originally was supposed to be a Corolla, but the service manager saw me and called back and said "get him another Tundra - this guy isn't going to fit in a car" (I'm 6'8"). So my loaner was a 2014 long bed DC 4X4.

That is exactly what the dealer told me at first free oil change. I am not entirely sure I buy that line. I think if I open a case with Toyota about the weeping seal they will fix it. What irked me is they put "no leak" on my report even though they called me and said it is weeping and it is common and most never develop into a dripping leak but if it does they will get it covered by Toyota. They cleaned the area well too.
