I need help with understanding how the 4WD system works....a wiring diagram will be very helpful. I ended up with a PDF of the transfer case actuator timing

The 4WD may be difficult to troubleshoot since we may be looking at a hybrid system. Can you take some pictures of the front differential and transfer case?

Are the engine, transmission, and transfer case the same type that came in the stock version of the truck? The non-factory looking radiator and that bright blue/green thing on the top of the engine bring me to this question.

Is the transfer case (4WD high range) actuated via a button/switch/dial on the dash or a button on the transfer case handle (if there is one) on the transmission tunnel?

What is flashing when you attempt to engage 4WD?

Is it the transfer case that's not engaging, or just the front differential?

So basically everything is stock. The rear axle gets it drive when the front diff (4wd) is engaged...they are 2 buttons around the AC panel on the dashboard. When we try to engage the 4wd the indicators on the cluster begins to flash, 4 hi.... sometimes if I cycle the ignition it stays on solid.

Have you been able to maneuver the slightly while shifting from 2H-4H? Many times it helps thing align for engagement. Think of splined collars having to slide over splined shafts where the shaft has to be rotated just ever so slightly so the collar can complete its travel to engage and the computer shows it's satisfaction with a steady indicating dash lamp. Sometimes it helps to ease up on the service brake to allow the vehicle to roll a few inches. And remember that for the 4L transition to happen the transmission needs to be in P or R and the transition from 2H to 4H has to be completed successfully. You can't really go from 2H to 4L in one transition. Same for the reverse transition.

They had removed the unit from the transfer case, I don't know if there is a particular way of reinstalling it. I'll try the advice..thank you.

Removed the electronic actuator? Oh jeez! I've read that those are a bugger to get reinstalled and synced up correctly. That's way outside my ability to offer suggestions about.

How on Earth did I miss this one? That was easily a first gen in the first pic, the hood and engine bay are the tell.

If we keep bumping this somebody will have a diagram. Where is this at? Looks like Central America?

Dude, same! How the .... did I miss this? The TB cover gives it away as a 4.7

Is that a ford bed? And the front axle drives the rear?

So when you push 4hi it sends a signal to the xfer case and front axle to tell them to go into 4wd. If either doesn't engage your light will blink.

You're right. Now i see it... the Ford has a round fuel door though, so maybe Ford lights grafted onto the Tundra bed?

Bmf4069 thank you. Well to be honest these guys have done a lot on this build. Radiator, ebc brakes..flow master headers, complete suspension, new fuel pump(double flow rate), 12 point injectors, double oil cooler, msd coil packs. As I remember I'll update.

No problem. All I ask for in return is a complete build sheet and at least 57 pics.

Looked like modified f150 besides to me as well. I love how lawless this build is.

I'm actually liking the yellow color that it was before. I've only seen one other yellow first gen, its a refreshing thing to see.

I knew a Witch Doctor from Guyana. He tried throwing some voodoo secret mojo potion on me and I blocked it in the Name of JC.

Stoked on this 6x6 action. What kind of brakes are we using on the rear axles?
