I agree. I think that should work great.

What exactly do shims and shackles do? I've begun looking into front leveling, and looking hard at 6112's....but all this talk of shims/shackles...is that necessary if all I want to do is level the front?

Shims help with tundra lean and/or give you an extra 1/2” or so of front lift. New adjustable Shackles are to raise the rear.

Shims look like flat discs. A 1/4" thick shim should provide about 1/2" of lift. They're usually placed on top of the coilover's top hat and just under the top shock mount (as opposed to a spacer which can go in between the coil spring and top hat). Many Tundras lean slightly on the driver's side because of the added weight of the gas tank and driver. To compensate, some folks will add one shim on the driver side to level it up with the passenger side. I've never used shims. A 1/2" difference in height doesn't bother me, but that's just me.

Shackles are an inexpensive way to lift the rear about an inch or two. They attach the rear part of the leaf pack to the frame. Another inexpensive (probably cheapest) way to lift the rear is to use blocks, which go in between the leaf pack and spring perch on the axle. I've never seen it happen, but have heard of blocks spitting out from the spring perch, which can be dangerous. An add-a-leaf (AAL), which is an extra leaf spring placed within the stock the leaf pack (usually on the bottom), is another way to achieve lift and sometimes can add a bit of extra spring rate. AALs sometimes provide a harsher ride. True performance for the rear comes with brand new leaf packs that can add lift, cargo carrying capacity, or greater flex, depending on your needs, but new leaf packs are more expensive. Hence, the more affordable and popular way to achieve modest lift in the rear is with shackles.

You don't need to lift the rear if you want to keep it level, and you can still easily fit bigger tires without lifting the rear. But by leveling the truck, the rear will sag lower than the front once you haul a load in the bed or tow something heavy. So most folks like to add a 1" or 2" lift in the rear to compensate for that, especially if they go with more than 2" of lift up front.

You will most likely need UCA to get into proper alignment specs you will be pretty close to 3in. I have done TONS of research and the consensus is YES get them because if you don’t you will pay for an alignment then 6 months down the road buy UCA anyway and pay for another alignment. Pay once do it right the first time.

Anyone running 6112's at TOP setting AND adding CB Shims ( both for additional 1/2") ???

I have the 3+ shackles for the rear already but was wondering if there were any pics out there ( or did i miss them cause I think I have viewed every Tundra in the US)

If you did add 2 shims to top setting on 6112's any issues with alignment ?

    Thanks in advance

If you go that route, go ahead and buy UCA's as well. Once you get around the 3" mark, you get close to needing them, so anything over and you will most likely have to have them.

Think it was @r1-superstar that found out he needed after he installed his at the higher setting with shims.

What's the general opinion on best UCA for the $ for the 6112 top setting plus shim setup?

Well after driving on 2 blown rear shocks for about a month or so I finally have the time and weather to install my 6112's and 5160's. So excited to have them on the truck. I have the passenger front side almost done and it only took me about an 1-1/2 hours to get it done. Will post up some pics once it's all installed. Thanks to all the guys posting on this thread it has really helped me decide on how to set the front shocks up.

Finally taking the plunge this week on my lift and wheels/tires. Getting Fuel Assault 18s +1, and 5" backspace. BFG 305/65 tires. If I have to do the lift, I'm going with 6112 at the top setting and 5100 in the rear. So I'll report back.

Some great looking trucks on this thread!

Think my plan is to get the 6112 top setting, UCA (haven’t decided brand) 5110 and coach builder shackles +2.

Anyone any issues I may have? Too much lift in rear? Want level or slight forward rake

I'm on the top setting with 6112's with no aftermarket UCA's . I didn't have any alignment issues. I do have the slight driver lean and have already purchased a shim for the driver side but haven't committed yet. I'm iffy whether my alignment will allow for it without UCA's

I went with Toytec Boss Rear shocks purely because they were spec'd for 0-3" of rear lift. I also went with Toytec shackles and ended up on the middle hole. Supposedly the 5100's were only good for 0-1" of rear lift. Just wanted my options for rear lift in the future if I decided to go with more rake. Just my 2 cents

This is the exact setup I'm going with although I'm going to do just the front 6112 rear 5110 and then use a jack to determine if the 2" CB shackles are going to be the correct choice. I want a slight rake just for light towing and hauling.
