6112 Setting and Tire/Wheel Combo Thread.

I am looking to purchase the 6112 and the 5160 set up. Can anyone tell me a good place to purchase this already assembled? And the corresponding part numbers. I just realized that there a few different models?

@Hartsy8 I missed how much lift you are wanting to do. If you are lifting the front 2" or less, I doubt anyone besides you will really notice. If you are lifting about 3"+ I think it would look a little funny. Also, what is a bit?
Either way, I'd say do the suspension all at once and live with your current tires until you can put on the new ones.

I ordered mine from shocksurplus.com . You can get the assembled from settings 1 - 4. I did this set up with stock TSS off road rims and tires and added JBA UCA.

 

Bilsteins 6112 up front at max setting (2.5”) with a 1/2” shim on each side for a total of 3” lift in front. Bilstein 5100s in rear with 1.5” Toytec shackles in rear. Delta joint UCAs. 285/70/18 nitto ridge grapplers with SCS ray 10’s.

 

Hey all still struggling deciding what to do. I have a buddy helping me throw in my 6112s and 5160s tomorrow... I am struggling deciding between:
1) setting the front at 1.9s and putting in the 1.5 Camburg shackles in the rear
2) setting the front at 2.5 and putting the 1.5 shackles in the rear
Or
3) just setting the front at 1.9 and leaving the shackles off until it’s time for bigger tires...

Advice? Thoughts? Inputs?

I am getting the same set installed next week. just going to do the 6112 and 5160, nothing else. Hoping to fit 275/70/18 with no issues.

 

At what setting though? I am torn!

 

I would go 1.9 and stand by on rear lift until they settle- maybe a few weeks. I went from an 08 Tacoma with spacers, blocks and add a leaf and 35s to a new 2017 Tundra. The Tacoma looked bad ass and was fine on the beach but that lift was definitely not performance focused. The Tundra wasn't cheap and I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off so performance is a priority. I researched the best to my ability and ended linking up with Keith Carty as a buddy. Keith provided guidance and explained the why's and how's. There are many factors that influence overall ride/performance, breaking, geometry...
Here is my story: I first wanted Kings (still do) but decided that for my use as a daily driver with a very small percentage of offroad use that Bilstein 6112s/51160s was the way to start. I planned on setting at 1.9 with 2 sims DS and 1 shim PS with a CB +2 shackle in rear. I linked up with David Ekstrom and purchased the shackle and shims- also picked up a diff drop kit from big box store.
After Keith imparted his knowledge on me I decided to go 1.3 with no shims. Once the 6112s settled I got the lean- it was noticeable. Instead of adding a shim to the DS I had he DS set to 1.9 setting (PS remains at 1.3 setting). Truck is level in front and has .25" rake. Stock rear height with 5160s. So this was based off of theory and "experimentation" and worked out for me however, most go with shims to increase height and counter the lean.

This is how she currently sits
Front DS 23.4" Front PS 23.5"
Rear DS 24.2" Rear PS 24"

*crazy how the geometry works.

*stock was just about 21.5" in front so right around 2" increase in front.

I went with Method 701s (17 x 8.5) and 295/70r17 Mickey Thompson ATZs (33.2 x 12). I and happy with the offset and width of tires. Just did the front wheel-well liner trim and push.




My )* Tacoma I had (miss it). Body lift add a leaf, Mickey T 35s, pro comp wheels, manual.

 

Very nice! Just got mine on at 1.9 and have some lean so I will likely throw in a single shim down the road

Is it safe to say your settings are the same as 6112 on the 1.3” setting with one shim on the drivers side?

I ended up with pretty close to a 2" height increase in front- went from 21.8ish to 23.5". I took measurement from center bore to fender on "level" surface with full tank. Its not much at all and I think the Tundra should come stock like that, but it allowed me to fit a tire size that doesn't impact performance too much and looks good - no regear (although anything bigger than stock will benefit from regearing).
Im a novice with all this but this is how I see it- if I went with like a 3/2 lift I would need 35s and would optimally need to regear and deal with CV angles, drive shaft angles and more.

- The settings on the 6112's are not an exact measurement so 1.9 could be higher or lower...also need to take into account additional weight such as steel skids, aftermarket bumper/winch.... I don't have any of those- yet.

 

Anyone buy new top hats (strut mount) for the Bilstein's? Any experiences with Moog vs factory? I'm debating buying new ones before I install the 6112's.

 

After being tortured by this thread for a few weeks, I Ordered the 6112s and 5160s from @BOSS4x4s yesterday, and they are great to work with!

Is it a given I need a CB shim for the driver side? Just trying to decide if I’m going to go ahead and install one in the first place, or should I wait for any settling/lean to declare itself?

Take a tape measure and compare measurements from the ground to the top of the fender well going through the middle of each front wheel. If your drivers side is at least a half inch lower then order a shim. Try to do this on level ground with a mostly full tank of gas.

 

You think the lean should be consistent between the stock suspension (TRD Bilsteins) and the new set up? I’ll go with that. Thanks.

 

That’s what I’ve see. I had about 3/4” lean with TRD OR suspension before and lean is down to 1/8-1/4” after installing 1 CB shim drivers side with 6112 set at 1.9”.

Trucks that don’t have a lean before install seem to stay level.

Just got her back. Had 6112s installed at top setting with 5100s. Tires are NR Grapplers 295/70/18. Measuring .5in lower in rear. Hoping the front settles to make it perfectly level. May add 1in shackles to help with weight in the bed. Anyone have this same set up and had the front settle out to meet the rear? I know it will settle some, but not sure about a 1/2 inch.
