How does the ride on the 5160's compare to the 5100's in back? My OCD is getting the best of me and am thinking about going to 6112's and 5160's. I have the Icon leaf expansion pack in back to gain 1" of rake for my dirt bike carrying trips (almost every weekend). Might have some 5100's for sale....only 1,000 miles on them :cool:

If you’re using the truck almost every weekend for dirt biking, I would go with the 5160 shocks. They are built for off roading. I did have a set of Bilstein 5100 on a older Tundra, and the ride felt the same. Ride is firmer, stable, absorbs bumps. But go with the 5160, looks better with the truck. Post some pics when you finish.

Thanks for you input, much appreciated!! Maybe have to do it in stages as I am also thinking about an exhaust. Maybe get the back shocks first, then exhaust, then the fronts...damn money tree needs to produce more :spending:

did the Icon pack give you more than 1" of lift, before it settled down to 1"? I have 6112's (@ 2.5") and 5160's (no lift), but I'm going to install the Icon pack soon.

I am wondering if the shop installed them correctly. The directions say that you remove 2 of the stock leafs but when I went to pick it up they gave me only 1 leaf (from each side). And the 1 leaf was fairly short, thick and heavy. It seems like it is the very bottom one when you look at the last page of the ICON installation sheet. Would it make sense if they just took out the overload leaf? I am going to talk to them on Monday.

The reason I bring this up is that I really didn't get any lift. I was at 40.5 before and now am at 40.5. It rides really good, I just need to get clarification on what that 1 leaf they took out was and why they didn't do as the instructions say. Unless this way is to give a better ride which I would rank higher than giving a lift but I really wanted both as that is what ICON says this pack will do. I need the rake for when I put my 2 dirt bikes in the back. Maybe I'll add a 1" shackle in back to get me an additional 1/2" of rake.

My other thought without regards to $$ would be 6112's up front set at 1.9 and add 2 coachbuilder shims on the driver side and 1 on the passenger side (already have them at home), 516o's in back and the RXT or Deaver (sp) leaf pack and shackles. Or the Toytec lift :goingcrazy:

Edit - It appears that Deaver may have a leaf expansion pack and per their instructions they remove the factory overload leaf. My OCD is giving me a headache :laughing:

I keep looking for replacements for my 6112/5160 combo and can’t find the right thing. I love the aluma series toytec, but the candy red on black is a no go. Fox are prone to issues, and king’s rust quick.

Dobinsons will get my money when their IMS comes out. Til then, these work great on washboard fire roads.

Yea, the red or the Toytecs is what I really like about them as I have the Barcelona red truck.

6112’s 1.9” with 1/2” drivers shim. 5160 on rear and added firestone airbags for towing.

Big shout out to Boss 4x4’s ... awesome customer service and arrive in 3 days

you guys are killing me! I’m buying Toyo OV AT3’s and Now 6112’s are on the list. It’s gonna be an expensive October.

How big of a tire can I go if I do 1.3 on the 6112’s?

all depends on your rim. but 33's will fit without any lift. maybe you can get 285/70/18's (34's) in with some cutting on the 1.3 setting.

With the Deaver pack - you remove the big thick overload leaf at the bottom, with the icon pack you remove the two secondary springs just above that overload leaf and replace those 2 with the icon set (3 leafs).
This way icon advertises as “maintain factory tow capacity” because that overload spring is key

Edit: I got 1.5” of lift when I installed the icon pack...

Yea, I talked to the installer and he said he's done that the same way all the time. Taking out the overload....I said, well, that's not the way ICON says to do it. It's going back in next week so they can do it the right way. Trying to figure out if I want to take this opportunity to upgrade from the 5100's all around.....

You need to reverse your buying list. Fronts, exhaust and then rear shocks. Maybe even go exhaust first because @dirtydeeds is have a GB right now.

^Agree. Recommend to get the front dialed in and then determine what you will need for rear in terms of height. I ended up with DD 8" system first and then did fronts and ended keeping rear stock height with 5160s- turned out well for my uses.

awe yea! I’d get 5100’s or even wait if needed and get 5160’s, they’re so easy to change you don’t even have to worry about doing it at the same time.

I currently have 5100's all around. Wondering if there is a better street driving/occasional offroad shock that is better suited if I go up the 1 1/2" in the back than the 5100's. I'm kinda drawn to the Toytec Aluma series (red is a plus). I think the 2.0 would suffice for me.

I don’t have experience with the others, just stock, fox 2.0, and waiting for my icon 2.5” rear shocks to arrive in the mail. There’s so many contradicting conclusions on what is best for this or that kind of driving I really just wanted a bigger better shock and figure any of the big name brand would suffice, I was not impressed with the fox 2.0 in the least bit.

I’m doing an odd mix of 6112/Icon 2.5” rear.... here is 6112 on lowest setting, but I have maxtrac spindles so a total of 4.25” lift, the rear has icon leaf expansion & coach builder +1” shackles for a total of I think 2.25” lift, the fox shocks are still on there, I’m not off roading or testing the 6112’s “properly” until my new icons get here

Here is my dilemma... I have been slowly piecing together my lift. I have some 6112s at the 3rd clip and some Camburg 1.5" shackles... My problem is that I am of course anxious to get everything on the truck, however I won't be able to get my desired larger tires for several more months :(. I was planning on doing the 6112s no matter what so I would essentially be leveling out the front and I wouldnt think that would look too funny with stock tires for a bit. Should I also throw the shackles on while I am in there and doing everything? Or would that be too goofy to ride around with a 1.9" lift in the front and 1.5" in the rear with stock rubber? The alternative would be to install the shackles months down the road when I can get my hands on some new tires. What to do, what to do....

I’d suggest doing the front and shackles at the same time to increase the likelihood of keeping the TSS happy. Some shops offer decent money for stock tires with decent tread - have you explored that option? Took me 35k miles to wear my stock tires enough that I didn’t feel bad tossing them.

Yeah that is also a factor to consider for sure. I am more just wanting to do it for convenience sake of already have the rear shocks off and everything! I just dont want to look like a doofus running around with that much lift and no tires :p although I guess its not that much.
I have seen a lot of people have done that. Do you happen to know which places are open to that kind of thing? It may just take calling a few places like big'o or discount as im sure its not advertised. The stockers only have like 1500 miles on them and I can't stomach getting rid of new tires :/

Sorry if this has already been discussed and asked before - I recently got an estimate to do Bilstein 6112's and 5160's in the rear, add a leaf, diff drop, etc..I was wondering if it is recommended to replace the stock control arms while doing all of this or will they be fine? 2018 with 47k miles, mostly highway, and planning to do some very light off-roading and camping with the truck.

    Thank you!

Sell them on Facebook marketplace! You will get better value then a tire shop. Or sell with your rims and upgrade everything all together.

It really depends on how much lift you go with because that will limit the stock UCA during your alignment. At 1.9” you will be fine. At 2.5” you will be on the bubble whether or not you’ll need new arms but most people don’t. If you go up to 3” there’s a greater chance of needing new arms in order to get a proper alignment. Hope this helps

If they are the standard TRD rims and tires I would put them up for $1000, if just tires maybe $400 or $500. Check FB local to your area and you will see what others are selling them for
