I've had the 6.5 bed in my Tacoma and now in my 22 Tundra. The extra space is worth it, in my opinion. I camp a lot and tow a 22 foot trailer; the bed allows me to fit in all the gear easily and towing is super smooth. I can also fit large items without removing the fold-up tonneau cover. I live in a city so I did debate the 5.5 for a moment for ease of parking and maneuverability, but honestly, you get used to it. No regrets here.

I regularly haul two motorcycles in the 8’ bed, tailgate up, with room for tools, gas, cooler, etc. :)

Towing is also smooth as can be. Although my Chevy 8’ bed likes more weight better than the Tundra does ha.

6.5 bed is FB_IMG_1693001037731.jpg the only one I'd consider.

Definitely get a 6.5' if you can. The availability of the 6.5' was almost enough to trade my truck. You can certainly get by without it, but it does make a big difference. My last truck had a 6.5' bed and I loved it.

Love the 6’5” bed…wish I had (had gotten) one! The short bed is very short, and I think the truck looks more proportionate with the longer bed.

side note- anyone else think the bit of body color past the ends of the fender skirts toward the bottom of the body (on truck that don’t have body colored skirts) makes the tires/wheels look “pinched”. Not that I cannot live with it, just thinking might be good to put some wrap/blackout paint/etc. to extend that down?

I have the 6.5. I can't imagine having anything less in a pickup truck, having had eight foot for the previous 35 years. I added Airlift Air bags.

The unwillingness of my local Toyota dealer that has over 70 in stock Tundras to custom order a 1794 non Hybrid with a 6.5 foot bed will result in me ordering a 2024 F150 Platinum with a 6.5' bed in the next 2-3 weeks.

Sales manager "explained" to me that Toyota no longer makes Tundras in 6.5' beds. I replied, "Well, if that's the case, then I guess the Tundra is no longer an option for me."

Both parts of what you said are probably true.

That's why when I began the discussion, I started off with, "I'm also considering custom ordering from Granger Ford for 4% under invoice... We've custom ordered our previous three vehicles and we're willing to wait months because we're not going to spend that amount of money without getting exactly what we want."

The point was we are very particular with what we buy and we're not inclined to buy something off the lot. Their choice is either to secure a retail order in the future, or don't.

Mostly dirt bikes. I did add the Timbren SES bump stops to the rear. After about 3/4 of an inch of squat it gets very stiff to prevent squatting. Feels normal without a load unless you hit a big bump in the road then it gets harsh quickly with travel.

Timbrens! They are great but they also suck!

I ordered the SES for my truck and noticed right away that I was too harsh when driving along on many of our roads. I reached out to Timbren and got some softer rubber blocks. These were much better but I took them off and will put them back on for camping season.

1794 with 6.5' bed. I would refuse to go any smaller and would prefer a DC 8' bed but Toyota in their infinite wisdom won't build an upper trim level in that configuration. I had a Powerstroke F250 20 years ago that was a DC/8' and it was the only truck I could put my quad in and close the tailgate.

I've become soft and now feel the need for as many bells and whistles as possible (like Surround cam, HUD, etc). If they only make 5' beds I'm done.

Funny about the garage comments though. When we built our current home I had to argue with both the architect and the builder to extend the garage depth from their "standards". This truck fits with 12" in front and about 12" by the door when closed.

I like it overall but trying to turn off the LKA - it's dangerous the way it tries to jerk the steering wheel away if it decides I'm not centered enough - and it's often very wrong. Anyone know how to kill that? and the mileage still sucks. 15.1 highway at 2500 miles and I don't drive mike a madman. Maybe 5-7 over on cruise control.

6.5 bed is the way to go. I would have get the 8.1 but I needed the crew max for my kids. I’m a trade man so it’s nice to have all my tools with me on the truck.

6.5 all the way and you can stick things all over it! Kayaks go up top when the tent is closed and bikes on both sides of the tent.

I have a 6.5' bed and have zero regrets with my choice.

I use my truck for camping, overlanding and hauling home improvement materials, firewood, ect.

Anymore trucks out there with the 6.5 bed got pics to share? Hoping more folks will post with wheel tire lift and maybe even topper or camper combinations. It’s hard to find dedicated pics of wheel tire lift combos on this forum for just the 6.5 bed. Post em up if you got them! This thread is very helpful for prospective buyers and build planning.

My 2024 Platinum has a 6.5 bed and I love it. We use it to Haul our camper and it does that perfectly. And I think the 6.5 bed is proportionally right.

You can't tell but it's full of ladders, tools, and equipment at all times for my business. Even when towing our 7500lb boat, it sits just like this and tows like a dream. With the hybrid, the best 1/2 ton work/tow truck on the market. I'm looking for another but Toyota is really missing the boat on not making more of these trucks. It took forever to find this one and I've been looking for another for the last year too and they just don't exist with the rear air and AVS. It's really a shame. It's my alternative to an HD diesel but I don't tow 15k lbs and don't want the stiff ride and maintenance costs of a diesel so it's perfect for me.
