First off, thanks to Mr. Cade for his links, pictures and reports!

After addition of topper, decked system, bike rack, and other gear, it seemed like I was starting to get the wretched "Carolina Squat."

We also just purchased a 20 foot Camper that we will towing places and I wanted to beef up the rear end for such trips.

I debated long and hard on what to go with, debating between airbags, add a leafs, and going new leaf packs and shocks. My budget was around $1200.

I only wanted to address the rear suspension at this point because the front end seems to be doing well and came stock with Bilsteins in the Rock Warrior Edition so its sitting taller than other Tundras as it is.

Ultimately I went with OME Leaf Pack, Bilstein 5160s, and Timbren Active Bump-stops.

OME Leaf Pack as I figured I wanted to do it once and do it right and didn't want to trust my already saggy rear end to an add a leaf option.

I went with the Bilsteins as even though I had great experience with my previous OME suspension on the 4Runner I wanted a slightly more plush ride on long stretches of washboard, and I hope the extra oil in the 5160s will help with heat dissipation and promote a more plush ride over time.

The Timbrens came as a recommendation as a solid alternative to Firestone airbags. I liked the idea of the adjustability, but I didn't want to take the chances with the reliability issues I have heard from a few folks. Again, I wanted to do it once, do it right, and forget about it.

Thanks for this list and pictures! I am following this same route. Just installed the OME leaf springs and 5160’s and have 6112’s up next. I was wondering what you set the front height at and if you used any shims? Did the rear settle at all? I seem to be at 3” or so in the rear even with my shell. Thanks!

Not sure I’ll get a response here, but I wanted to follow up. I was looking at either OME or Dobinsons leaf packs. Each advertise ~2.25-2.5”.

I have 5160’s now with a 1” block and .75” Total Chaos shackle. I unbolted the bottom shock bolt and the 5160 is limiting droop with my 1.75” rear lift.

Have any of you unbolted the lower 5160 from the rear axle to measure how much droop the 5160’s are limiting the OME leaf pack?

Hey! Might be too late but figured I would respond. I noticed when fully flexed offroad it felt like my shock was fully extended and would lift a wheel every once in a while. I removed one of the overload springs since there appear to be two in the OME leaf pack and that brought the lift amount closer to 2" compared to around 3" as they come. This smoothed out my ride a fair amount and made the ass end of the truck less stink bug when unloaded. I think the 5160 works great with the OME leaf packs but they are very close to maxed out when actually using them offroad. Hope that helps at all

Thanks for the reply. This was my suspicion based on the 5160’s being short on down travel with my current 1.75” rear setup.
Wish Bilstein had an option for 1.5” - 3”
