Thanks!! I'll check out the one in Escondido since I'm in North County

That's what I thought, too. I took it to Oceanside Transmission, which has great reviews, and showed them the instructions. They said they don't feel comfortable doing it  I don't know lol

Does anyone with experience know if it matters which hose goes to which in/out nipple on the radiator? In other words, does the outlet hose from the thermostat attach to the top or bottom nipple of the radiator? Thanks in advance!

The top port or “ATF to cooler” (see page 5 of the instructions) will route to the bottom port of the cooler.

    @Genuine Cooling Systems

Little clarification please on the MHX-514 Kit.

On the Thermostat to Hard Line Connections...

Does the top soft line from the thermostat ("To ATF Cooler"/Outlet Hose) connect to the top most "kinked" hard line?

Yes, the hoses never cross and always run parallel with each other. The top hose will also be on the uppermost portion of the bracket as your route it to connect to the uppermost hardline.

Let me know if you have any other questions. The portion of the Setrab 15-Row install video for the install of the Toyota hoses and ATF level check procedure are the same procedures for the MHX-514. The video, combined with the .pdf instructions, should get you through the install fairly easily. Again, email me if you have any questions and I’ll get back to you ASAP.

I had to take a 2.5 hr drive today, first "long" one since I installed the cooler, I wasn't towing but I wanted to compare the OBD Fusion Toyota pack A/T oil temp 1 vs the custom PID from the first post in this thread, as I thought I had seen somewhere in another thread that the Toyota pack temp was higher than the custom formula. In this screenshot, Toyota pack PID is bottom left and custom PID is 2nd from top left, named "ATF Pan". The Toyota pack reading was exactly 1 degree higher F throughout the range of temps I saw.

I didn't try the A/T temp 2 (torque converter) to compare.

I'm towing this weekend to Savannah so I'm excited to see how it does under greater load :)

That’s weird. I wonder if it’s due to the perimeters of the formula.

Nick is the MHX-514 cooler with the 2 connections on the side a bidirectional cooler? I saw a couple videos mention it but wanted to be sure for when i connect the hoses from the cooler to the hardline.

It is however, I recommend you route the hoses according to the instructions. The inlet hose (ATF flow from thermostat to cooler) should be connected to the bottom port of the cooler so it forces any air pockets out of the cooler. The same goes for the Setrab cooler as well.

@Genuine Cooling Systems what's your opinion on using one of the Setrab fan pack units, like the 20 row 9 series w/ 2 fans? Would it only make sense for someone who sees high temps during rock crawling or frequent slow speed towing?

I bet it is due to some rounding in the operations/ordering of the formulas. I configured it to display some decimal points, and it tracked like this (custom formulas on top, Toyota pack PIDs on the bottom):

Like you said, it would only make sense for someone who rock crawls and/or overlands their rig with a heavy load. I thought about adding a unit with a fan but it didn't make sense since the 15-row cooler already maintains the pan temperature just above the thermostat opening range (which is where we want it). If the desire for a fan on a 20-row cooler is there I can design a kit for it but the drastic increase in price is going to sway buyers away.

Is there a ballpark of how much ATF is actually needed for the mhx kit? I followed the instructions and my pan was level within a degree with an angle guage and when I drained it, very little came out before it started to trickle. I put slightly more than 1.5 quarts in figuring it would just drain out later, but judging from what came out I would say there is very close to an additional 1.5 qts in there now. I went for a short drive to check for leaks and everything felt normal. Is there a big range for normal total capacity?

With the MHX-514, it takes roughly 1 quart to fill the cooler and lines. It’s not uncommon for the ATF level in your truck to be low or over filled with ATF from the factory. As long as you followed the procedure correctly and you had a trickle between 99-111 F you are good to go.

Does anyone know if there is a metal washer that goes on the transmission drain plug? I got completely finished with the fluid level check, and I thought the install was one hundred percent done… and then I found a metal washer under my truck. I can only imagine that it goes on the drain plug. Well, if it turns out to be the drain plug washer, which way should it be oriented? There is a flat side, and a not flat side. I’m assuming that the flat side would mate up with transmission pan. I’m waiting for my ATF pan temp to drop below 80° so I can start the fluid level check all over again… :(

Drain pan drain plug or check level plug? Either way both should have a washer. Also, it doesn’t matter which side the washer faces the pan, it will be seal either way and not damage the pan.

I guess I meant check level plug.
