Just got mine installed two nights ago. MHX-514

Had I not Stubbled across this thread I would have never thought about it being a problem.

Before I made any commitment to purchasing I got the obd reading process going to collect some data.
To my surprise the trans in my truck runs hotter than I expected or am comfortable with accepting.
I commute up and down a mountain 6 days a week and gain 3000ft elevation between 5500ft and 8500ft.
In the first week with ambient temps between 50-70° F the trans was peaking as high as 245°F and consistent in the 200-230°F range.
No load in the truck or towing during the data collection but the truck is on 37's.

After the install my peak temp at the TC has been 215° but briefly gets there before falling lower.
Very happy with this install. Thank you forum!

I'm would love a data sheet or something from the FSM showing the temperature range between close and fully open on the thermostat.

Also I found the install pretty easy, one thing that helped me fit the in/out lines from the cooler to the chassis mounted hard lines was removing the dust/dirt curtain by the strut. I was able to reach my right hand through and made it a little easier.

    Awesome!
Also that new peak temp is just the thermostat opening and working!
Mine seems to open around 190 and then settles the temp at 185. When I pinned it, the temp would never get above 175. Glad to hear its working for you!

Got my kit last Saturday , the cooler itself had a bent bracket , Nick shipped a brand new replacement after 5 min from when I sent the email.

Got the new one today and I started assembling the cooler kit and brackets , once I get some free time , will level up the truck and get everything installed .
Everything is premium and overall awesome kit and Nick is an awesome guy to deal with.

That's nuts! I hoped they'd last just a little longer. I'll have to get one a bit later and "settle" for my bed rack later this month. This is a screamin' deal and congrats to the lucky 5!

The software numbers listed on the OP. Are they for post install of a cooler or general for a Tundra?

Are you talking about the monitoring codes for the OBD readers? Those should apply to all to all Tundras

Can the cooler be used to cool power steering fluid? I like how it’s mounted. What size are the fittings?

Just ordered mine! Like many of you, I was skeptical of Toyota's memo stating that their new ATF can handle the higher temps. Especially since they also claim it's lifetime, and recommend an oil change interval of 10,000mi.

This past summer I've been noticing temps cross well into the 200's unloaded, and I plan to start lugging a toy hauler around next year... for the price I think this is a no-brainer for anyone planning on towing.

Looking forward to posting an installation update!

Just so you know, theyve been using the same ATF for 15 years, nothing new or special about it!

All the more reason not to trust a corporate-pushed justification for unnecessary cost cutting! The video showing the difference between with-and-without is what ultimately sold me: https://youtu.be/pYo24Ewrm44

Absolutely! I recently returned from a hunting trip hauling my not so big camper and my trans temps were way higher than any other truck I’ve ever owned, by as much as 50 deg, and this was in cold temps and not so fast speeds. Can’t imagine what the summer towing temps would be.

I’m sure it could however, I haven’t done any research to retrofit it for the power steering system. The kit includes 6AN barbed fittings with 3/8” hose.

I started installing the kit today ( try to work on it whenever I have time after work and before I pick up the kids ) , I removed skid plate and installed the cooler , relocated the horn and installed the grommet on the wind deflector.

tomorrow I will be routing the hard lines and if time permits will hook up the thermostat .

do you think it will be easier if I hook up the rubber hose to the hardlines and then try to route it and secure it ??
Or should I just install the hardline and then the rubber hoses , I am afraid that if I install the hard lines first , it will be too tight for me to reach out and connect rubber hoses .
What do you guys think ?

I initially installed the lines onto the thermostat and tried to wiggle it up there as the video in post 1 mentions, but that proved to be too much of a pita. I found it easiest to install the thermostat on its own (since it’s a pain) and then route the soft lines. It was really easy to get the clamps secured with some long reach needle nose pliers.

Thanks , how about the other end (front toward cooler ), was it easy to hook up the rubber hose to hard lines ?

Not really, that was the other hard part but putting atf on the hard line as a lube definitely helped. I found I needed to use one hand to support the hard line and one to shove the rubber hose on, otherwise I tweaked the hard line back a bit. I never got the rubber line seated all the way back to the ridge on the tube but I got it 90% of the way there and was able to get a solid clamp on it so there aren’t any leaks.

You weren’t kidding, just hooked it up , had to hold the hardline like you said . Was able to put it all the way and installed the retainers , hooking up the line to cooler now . Wife and kids are sleeping , best time to work on it
