Installed mine today. (Setrab) Biggest pain in ass is the hoses connection to the hard lines. PXL_20211018_210344870.jpg

Went on the maiden voyage today towing my setup. Trans cooler did its job really well. Did some surface street driving as a test, meaning constant acceleration to 40 and also sitting at red lights. Hottest I saw was TC temp of 215 and it quickly dropped back down to the pan temp of 190 once I started moving. I can definitely live with that. Trailer and tacoma weigh a combined 8,000 lbs.

I found the temp check procedure for 2014+ using a jumper between 4-13 on the OBDll connector. Can anyone verify whether this procedure will work on a 2019 to place the trans. into temp check mode?

Got the Setrab installation done today. Fantastic kit. Hardest part was battling the lack of space in my garage. I did have to "shim" a few tires with 1/2" boards to get it level. It wasn't dead nuts, but it was just within the line. Hopefully that doesn't make a huge difference.

Also went "out of order" in steps. One could save some time by assembling the heat exchanger and bracket before hand.

Watch out for the heat deflectors around the cats. They're sharp buggers.

Last testament post and then I’ll stop spamming the thread, but I had to report back after a proper trip.

800 miles round trip and PLENTY of hills once I got into PA, some were pretty steep and long. The highest temp I saw at any given point was a torque converter spike of 222 but as soon as I crested the hill, it swiftly dropped down to pan temp of ~195. I can’t even begin to imagine how hot my trans would have gotten without it.

If anyone tows anything and has a 19-21, I would say this kit is a necessity, not an option.

Just ordered my kit , can someone please provide some insight on the below

    1) when installing the thermostat , is it only the O rings from the spacer that needs to be replaced or also the ones on the puck

    2) when level check the fluid , you need to shift to all gears and reverse based on the install guide , do you need to do it once or keep doing it till it reaches 99?

    3) I have read couple of comments where the bottom bolt on the puck won’t thread and they had to replace it with the horn bolt , is it something common or expected with each install ?

    4) anyone tried running the hard lines without removing the skid plate or removing it is a must ?

I ran through gears until it reached temp, including hopping into S and bouncing through the gears. Dunno if necessary but that’s what I did.

The horn bolt wasn’t for the puck. The horn bolt was up front, for the cooler itself. I had to use it on the lower most bolt for the bracket where the bracket bolts onto the truck.

I have the RCI skid plate and did not need to remove it, I don't know if that will be different with the OEM. Removing the RCI skid plate wouldn't have made anything any easier.

Does the OBDFusion app with Toyota enhanced diagnostics allow the user to reset the transmission thermal degradation estimate?

I haven’t found an OBD app that allows for that. I’ve got myself a very basic Asus laptop with deleted WiFi card that runs Techstream.

You will probably need a 2.0.4 firmware cable that supports newer ECUs and live data.

I ran the hard lines without removing my TRD pro skid plate Is it a little bit tricky Yes but it can be done.

I shifted the transmission through all the gears a couple of times and then waited for attempts to reach 99° before checking fluid.

No issues with the bolts they line up right up it's an OEM part shouldn't be any problem.

When you remove the spacer the o-rings will be stuck to the side of the transmission take them off the thermostat replaces the spacer and has its own o-rings

    1) the orings from the spacer stuck to the mounting surface of the transmission when I removed the spacer. If this happens just ensure you remove them as the thermostat has its own orings. The puck reuses it’s orings.
    2) I had my wife continue to cycle through the gears til the pan temp reached 99f, maybe about 2 or 3 times.
    3) I did not have an issue with any of the bolts.
    4) I removed my RCI skid before install. Didn’t even look to see if it could be accomplished without removal. If anything it adds a little more clearance to roll around on the creeper.

To my understanding the thermostat switch opens at 195f. I assumed it would be triggered by the pan temp however it seems to be opening when the TC hits 195+. I only have a few country drives since installing the aux cooler but I haven’t been able to get the pan temp above 185f since install. Does anyone know the relation between the pan temp and TC temp in reference to triggering the thermostat? Just curious is all.

It's not a full open or full closed situation It will partially open similar to a thermostat in your cooling system.

I was told by my local dealer that the 2019 trans temp check mode was the same procedure as earlier models. I was not able to get it to work. The issue I had with using an IR thermometer on the pan is that I was seeing about 20+ degrees difference depending on where I was measuring temp.
