Corvette Racing uses Mobil 1 exclusively since the early 90’s. I remember reading about it in the brochure I received when I purchased my Corvette.

Did your friend find out what caused the spun bearing? Oil starvation?

Not 100% sure anymore, that was about 4yrs ago... but I know that the RP would turn black after less than 1000 miles on it. I honestly think it just wasnt lubing correctly, we tore that motor down and there was no sludge or blockages, only had 175k miles.

you guys are funny with all this talk about oil. I get a synthetic change every 5k from my local mechanic and move on with my life. I only do 5k intervals because The Truck is a dedicated off road truck. My lexus I do 10k intervals. I think the shop uses valvoline synthetic, but honestly as long as its a reputable brand IDGAF

Before my bike got stolen, I used Shell Rotellla. My bike ran smother and cooler with no clutch slippage. I had issues with other brands like pensoil and honda racing oil.

Very good read! Didn't realize how many bases were available for "synthetic" oils, and that only 2 of them are purely synthetic.

I feel all those "Best" articles are biased - You can find one leaning towards whatever you want - here is on from an Amsoil dealer but has some data behind it.
    http://www.bestsynthetic.com/best-synthetic-motor-oil.shtml

Amsoil doesn't show up in a lot of them probably because it can't be picked up at the local store. Don't think you can go wrong with anything Full synthetic. I just don't like changing the oil so I prefer the once a year treatment.

Amsoil is a Multi-Level Marketing company, like Amway. I stay away from companies like that.

AMSoil is a great product. No doubt in my mind. Plenty of other products on the market that would never touch my motors.

I wish it was just more readily available.

I bought some Amsoil for my direct injected bass boat and as I was pouring it into the reservoir, I saw chunks of congealed gunk come out of the jug. Had to pull the reservoir and drain it. Took it back to the retailer and never tried that crap again.
