The dealer couldn't properly diagnose it, not sure i'd even listen whatever they told the OP.

If the headgasket is blown as bad as it sounds then it should be easy to figure out. OP just needs somebody competent to work on it. Any diagnosis from the second shop yet?

Did I miss the post on what codes it is throwing? Instead of guessing, why don't we start there?

Wasn’t given, nor any data of substance. I’m guessing troll thread.

In the first OP he states, misfires found on 6 of 8 cylinders. I started thinking head gasket right off, and then I went back a read it again. If it was or is HG problem it would be evident
by pulling the dipstick and finding chocolate milk where the oil once was. Didn't see that mentioned. Those solenoids for variable timing may just be the thing causing the problem
but looks like a dealership could have spotted that. Those are cheap parts compared to what's happening here. There are no codes mentioned. Rocket dog , if you
have a code reader, find the codes and pass them on , might just be the key
to the situation for a remedy .

there is rarely mixing of oil and coolant in a head gasket failure this is more indicative is an oil cooler/heat exchanger failure). Cooling system pressure test and hydrocarbons in coolant as well as borescope inspection are your key indicators.

I don’t recall any specific codes being posted. There are myriad other possible causes to investigate (most would trigger codes) before replacing an engine harnesses, then straight to engine replacement. OP never responded with findings of the alleged independent shop. My diagnosis is trolling.

Well WhiteSR5 your probably right. You've been here a month longer than me. You've seen more of this than I have. I don't think hes a troll but a bit at his wits end
and seeking help. Anyway if the head gasket failed and didn't turn the oil into you know what,, there would have been evidence of coolant loss along with
evidence of coolant leaking out somewhere . Didn't read any of that from his posts either. From his posts about the dealership he's working with , makes
me feel vindicated to never deal with them unless the power you have on them is the written warranty you have them over the barrel with.,

I had a All Trac Celica turbo that had maybe 20k on it when all of a sudden it was like the engine blew up. I was running on maybe one cylinder and sounded like the bottom end was going to drop out of it. The car was out of warranty (6 years old) so I worked on it myself. Had lots of people say head gasket but the compression was fine. It turned out to be a shady gas station. When I took the injectors out there was sludge in them. It was bad enough that I had to replace them. I was able to drain the tank and clean all the fuel lines/rail. It was like some sort of black paste. Even after cleaning everything and replacing the injectors it still took a lot to get it to even start up. Once it did it spit and sputtered like crazy and smoked for a good 10 minutes. Eventually it cleared up and ran just fine.

I think you took my post out of context. I wasn’t digging on you about suggesting a blown head gasket. I was stating that the failure mode for head gaskets doesn’t necessarily result in coolant in the oil. If I came across the wrong way, please accept my apology.

As far as OP is concerned, I feel sorry if what was posted actually transpired. Personally, I can’t stand incompetent shops that take advantage of customers.

There’s a lot of smart people here that would love to help out. Unfortunately, there was little to no data given that was helpful to that endeavor. Perhaps they have more pressing matters to deal with, which is understandable.
