Having the same "truck is a beast with the 5.29's" experience! After hearing I have 37's, the Dirty Deeds dude made me promise I would regear before he accepted my order for the BAM muffler lol he was right. It just wants to go...take the foot of the brake and it's moving. I pity the parking brake when someday I forget to disengage it. Added the Auburn LSD. On the highway before regear it hunted way more, was less likely to find 5th and 6th direct drive and cruise control was pretty annoying but so much smoother now. Tows nice. I do still have my Pedal Commander engaged but only lightly to take the edge off. Transmission shifts sooner, engine revs faster so truck sounds meaner / less tired when taking off. Biggest challenge if finding an installer for the gears...not just anyone is willing and able to do this. For my situation I'm also a big fan of the tranny cooler - plenty of other threads beating that horse one way or the other lol.

Yes I think I need to too.

it seems like an easy decision because the choices are 488 or 529 but there’s so many factors to consider. I seem to always be focused on what RPMs will I be at at 65 miles an hour.

Another observation; I heard nitros had a whine to them and that revolution gears were quieter. Because of this I went with revolution. Day 2 of driving and I hear a whine slowing down beginning at 30 mph down to 20 mph. My son was with me and I asked him if he heard that. He says “the siren?” I laughed because that’s what it sounds like. It’s not loud but it sounds like a fading siren that’s far away. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yes some whine from the Nitro's. I really only notice it if I have rear glass down. At first I was concerned but when I starting hearing a whine from my stock silverado too I realized I was listening way too hard lol! But definitely more whine from the Nitro's than the stock gears at speeds you mentioned. If I begin towing more I will go from 80w90 to 85w140 and imagine it will be quieter. I'm sticking with dino b/c of the Auburn. I've seen on the forums here any whine at all means something ain't right...but also where aftermarket gear mfgr's quoted saying it isn't the case so don't pull your hair out.
For sanity around break in procedure, I used a temp gun to check rear temps doing the break in drives and then later first time short towing pulls. The installer was very happy with break in oil and used a borescope to confirm to confirm he was satisfied with it...on Jeeps I think he removes the diff cover and repaints/checks the mesh. But on Tundras to do so removing the 3rd member again is a PITA. As a side note he prefers Revolution too in general but the Nitro's is what I had requested and what we could get seamlessly enough last year. He just said he likes the way Revolution gears go together in general. What a gem finding this installer here in central IL...few offroad shops. Yota dealers here were kind enough to tell me that they didn't have the skill set for it before I found the installer here.

Its normal, as ratio goes up numerically, the less teeth are on the ring and pinion and the noise level tend to increase.

Mine sounds has a very little whine that's like a race transmission when slowing down, it's audible when I roll down the rear windows and no music , but once window up it's hard to be heard, REM polishing also help a lot with the noise reduction.

I have the nitro gear set.

With the rear window down, no music and windows up sometimes think I hear a whine slowing down same speed, but my hearing isn’t very good and I’m trying to hear it obviously. Had a bad install originally, as I understand whine slowing down is ok, whine slowing down and accelerating means a problem with install like mine. Not sure what whine when accelerating only indicates.

FWIW, I have zero whine from my Nitros

    Thanks.
So what improvements did you actually get from the tuner ?

I’m on 35s and have Nitro 5.29s. Wouldn’t change a thing. Yes, if I’m driving with windows down and stereo off, there’s a whine when coasting.
Guess how often I drive in those conditions? Next to zero. Mechanical whine does exist, but I’m of the opinion that it’s been made out to be far more of an issue than really is. Under real life conditions (ie bombing down the road with the AC full blast and the Dokken banging) it’s not noticeable. YMMV.

I hear mine with the windows up and everything else inside off. If I turn on the radio I’m sure I won’t hear it. It’s not loud but it’s there.

I would like to tell you everything that is better, but don’t know enough to explain correctly. Adjusting the calibration made a noticeable improvement, truck is happy lol. Removing the speed limiter really helps, but might not matter depending on where you live. 90 mph is cruising speed where I live on highway, not safe if that’s top speed for my truck. I will be out with my buddies soon, we have most combos covered, will try to get some drag race info. Last time my truck had stock gears, @831Tun was fastest with 5.29, not sure if he had bulldog tuner on but don’t think so. Other trucks had 4.88s, some with headers and tune.

I had that whine (revolution 5.29 with rem) on the deceleration, like you said a specific speed range. I can't say I've heard it in a long time, seems like once the gears wore in a bit (presumably) the whine went away. I'm at 4000 miles or so on the gears, I can't say they're any different sounding than stock now.

Curious if anyone has gone up to 5.29s with 285/75R18s aka skinny 35s. Mine are 35.1" and 65lbs. Lighter than a true 35x12.5

My truck will hold lockup through most of the hills around here, but there are a few steeper grades where it does not. These are the places around Nashville where there's an extra lane for the big rigs to mosey on up.

I don't know if it's necessary, but it might be fun.

Circumference is the main issue, you would definitely benefit from some gears! But you don’t have to either if it works for you. I want to update my gears and I am only running 33‘s

Love that video, the dust is amazing. The truck has changed so many times, it's hard to remember but I think you're right and the BD had been removed. Thinking about getting the HP tune but need to pay my daughter's tuition first.

Same curiosity here. Though I haven't heard of anybody breaking them, so I don't think it's a concern.

At .59:1 trans gear ratio (6th), you'd be around 2550 RPM

I am just going to lay down the big Sausage.. I have a 2020 Army Green TRD Pro Tundra. I just had a 7" BDS coil over lift installed with ALL the bells and whistles including the recoil traction bar. I am having it increased to a 9" lift with adding Front Leveling kit - 1 inchPart ICON 2007+ Toyota Tundra Rear Leaf Spring Expansion Pack Kit - 1.5 inch lift and adjusting the shocks to make it a full 2 extra inches. I have 37" x 12.5" Nitto Ridge M/T tires with 18" wheels (real men have more tire than wheel. I would have gone 17" if they weren't so back ordered) I just had the 5.29 Nitro gear ratio installed and am installed a Harrop supercharger on the 15th. I cannot wait to see how it drives after the supercharger. I basically took everything that made it a Pro off and made it much better (truly Toyota could be offering a better suspension/tire combo for the TRD Pro price). I will post updates but I truly feel like a boss on the road now and I turn heads all day.

I fully hear you brother. I have been pretty smart with my money overall and the first thing I did was pay off my house so I could have no mortgage and save. I do want to make it clear I do work hard lol. Not just some trust fund baby but my grandparents did leave me a small amount. I just want to enjoy life right now though while I can. I have a few health issues I don't want to talk about on here haha but yea I just want to be stupid and spend money on something I love haha.
