This sounds about right. The shop I go to wanted $900 to do a gear change as I recall. It'll go up though if you're wanting to put on some sort of locker as well.

I mentioned to Darren that you spoke well of him. Is REM polishing worth it? I know nothing about it.

Thanks, IMHO yes it is worth it and you don't have to worry about breaking them in plus honestly I think they run smoother. Probably a few shops out in CA that do REM polishing, need to make sure they can do a 10.5 gear but if not, I can PM you my guy. He does it for a lot of companies that market themselves as a companies that offer the service but they just actually send the gears to him.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is REM polishing and how much would that cost and how long would it take to do?

I didn't know what it is either. I did a google search. I'm guessing, from what I read, it'd cost $300-$400 to do front and rear rings and pinions.

Boss 4x4 had one set left after my order. I hear they'll be more widely available in March or April.

Our batch of 5.29's are on their way to REM polish. You can order them on our website and support a forum supporting vendor :D:D You can order them REM polished or standard finish. REM polish is all explained on our website under the description as well. If you are doing the gears, I would highly suggest doing an Auburn LSD at the same time!

Still waiting on a quote. Not too many places here for me to choose from. Everything's pretty expensive here so I'm guessing $1,500 +.

I never had gears done on any vehicle so I would be looking for a reputable place to handle doing mine. I already have front and rear ARB lockers, just need the gears and a good shop. I’m in the Bay Area. Anybody have any recommendations on reputable shops? Not really worried about the price as long as it’s done correctly.

The place I'm considering is in Salinas, Williams Equipment.

I’ve driven further for less. I got my lockers put in at California concepts, but they sub out the gears install so I don’t know who actually does the gears

A company in California called Weddle. It is not cheap doing single gear sets, so we batch them in in 20+ gear sets to make it worth it.
