You’re 100% wrong. For real. I know a guy who knows a guy who is top level R and D. I can’t say his name because he wants to keep his job and put food on the table. But I can tell you that there will be a NA V8 option for the Tundra. This will be the basic Tundra power train for all of us Toyota guys who love durability. They’re going to rob the Land Cruiser parts bin for just about every upgrade on the truck. We’ll get the 8 speed tranny, bigger touch screen, AWD system, adjustable air suspension, etc. A TT V6 will be offered on every model and tuners will be able to chip it for upwards of 1000RWHP for those of us who drift on the weekends. The hybrid V8 will arrive later as part of a “Space Shuttle Hotshot” edition max tow package (rated at 200,000 lbs but only with an factory supplied integrated 5th wheel in the bed, air brakes and 23 speed manual transmission). You’ll need a CDL to operate the thing. Mike Sweers, the chief engineer overseeing every aspect of the new Tundra, never said any of this stuff either but that doesn’t mean is isn’t happening. :)

And by the way. Mike Sweers tells the public what TOYOTA tells him to tell the public. It’s all good guys. Everyone can believe and speculate what they want

One thing I've just thought of is everyone (here and youtube) who says the V8 is gone mentions it's for 2022. Could Toyota bring out the new generation with only the V6 TT Hybrid then in 2023 bring out a refreshed NA V8? Think about it from a sales perspective - those who want the gadgets will jump on year 1 hybrid production (I will likely be in this category since I'll keep the 2016 and fiance will get the 2022) and those who want reliable old tech will get a year to see how the platform works before getting the trusty V8, many of those types would not have bought year 1 trucks anyways so they're not losing a ton of buyers if they wait a year to bring out a NA V8. Like so many have stated, they'd be fine with a tuned up 5.7, so it's not like they need years of development to put it in the new generation.

On its way out could we get the 5.7L shoehorned into the 4 Runner and mated to the 5 speed tranny. Just once is all I ask. TAKE MY MONEY.

I think this is the most likely scenario. I think it will be the "new Coke" marketing plan. Take it away for a year. Then bring it back to increased demand and at an increased price to (e.g. 2019 TRD PRO). Looking at the timing of the new Aisan transmission plant that we know will be hybrid, and will be for the Tundra, it makes sense that they would introduce a new Turbo V6 powertrain, overlap it with the old NA 5.7 for a time period to gage market demand, then bring in a hybrid version of the 5.7 with a new 8 or 10 speed hybrid trans. They will sell them in droves.

You have a point that I've also considered. Drop the V-8 for a year to keep the 2020 and 21 models in demand with the V8. Come back with a hopped up V8 that is sold at a premium in the Pro series to compete with the other $65K+ trucks out there.

But a new one now. You can get a 2020 for a song... lots of room to negotiate. When the new ones come out, probably not much room to move for awhile.

Dealers have been marking up Pros in some area since they came out. The only reason they continue to do it is the fools that will pay it.

Agreed, and any financing terms that exceed 48 months for a new car or truck is insane.

Holy hell if they put the 5.7 in a 4runner or GX I'd be all over it, might have to give up the car and have 2 Toyota 5.7s in the fleet

I'd like to see a dedicated truck engine preferably a V8 for Tundra and a V6 for Tacoma designed to be incredibly durable and with room for future improvements.

Agreed, but that is supply and demand. Looking at PROS around me in the Southeast, I'm actually amazed that some dealers are offering them $2k below MSRP on their websites.

Worth considering is that if Toyota drops the V8 from their line, they can no longer run in NASCAR. I suppose they could rebrand their entries in NASCAR as Lexus, as a V8 still used in Lexus, but why on earth would they do that? They have to have a production V8 if they are to run in NASCAR. This might seem inconsequential, but considering they just won another championship, even a declining racing series still makes them a ton of money. To my knowledge, they cannot run V6's in every vehicle and make a V8 specifically for the racing series.

Toyota Tundra trucks have become short buses, it is time to revert back to smaller / lighter trucks capable of being equipped with big V8 engines.

There is one person in a dealership who will know but he is likely silenced by an NDA. The Service Manager. It is his job to make sure that the techs of the dealership are up to date on training for the vehicles they work on. He will know what is coming and what is not. I also had to sign an NDA when the Ecodiesel training debuted Jeep then Ram before it was even announced in my tech days I am assuming it is the same for Toyota.

Well fortunately for Toyota NASCAR is looking at dropping v8's as well. They want more manufacturers, and all other manufacturers said drop the V8 or they won't join. V6 Hybrid is the rumor for NASCAR in about 2023, 2024 time frame.

I’m on the Lexus forums a lot since I also own a Lexus LX570. Based on their engine they have used in the past it’s likely to be on the next Tundra. When they had the LS500 with the v6 twin turbo and hybrid I knew this be on the next generation.
    In summary.
    2018 Lexus LS 500 -v6 twin turbo

2018 Lexus LS 500 -v6 twin turbo but tuned differently for the tundra

    Possible V8 options.
Lexus GX 460–V8 4.6. Toyota took this option off for the tundra, but who knows they may bring it back. This will be in production for the gx460 for next 5 years so it will stick around. Just a minor refresh for the gx460

2016-current Lexus GSF and 2018 Lexus LC500-V8 5.0. Would love see this one.

Recently announced a V8 twin turbo for the LC F twin turbo or other sportier Lexus, but highly unlikely for Tundra since this is going on a nearly $200k vehicle in the near future.

So much of these engines have already been in existence and proved so far to reliable without much issues. So when it does go on the next Tundra it should be solid. They just need to make sure all the pieces are put into place and it should not be much of an issue.

Why not just make a new V8 specifically for trucks and design it to be in production for many years.
