Great engine for a lighter vehicle... let's face it, the Tundra has become a fat pig just like big 3 trucks.

That is not a bad thing I rather tow with a heavy vehicle than one that is too light. Speaking from experience

That's why the big 3 offer huge trucks, but that is no reason for Toyota to do the same.
Let HINO compete in the huge truck market, and let Toyota focus on the 1/2 ton and smaller truck market.

When I was in my early twenties I worked for a Dodge dealership in Olathe Kansas. They paid for my training and in those trainings I learned that the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 shared a platform. Platforms for us even Journalists in definition is different than how Manufacturers use the term. For Ram its Cabs, electronics and computers because we all know the engines and frames are different between the three. I am confident this is the same case with Toyota. Right now there are many many differences in how things work between a Tundra and a Tacoma and it looks like they are trying to minimize that but they will still be different classes of truck.

If Torque News is correct, I doubt this, as they said Toyota dropped the 4.6 and the 5.7 FFV for the 2020 models.

I can promise you that the twin turbo V6 hybrid can no longer be assumed. It is happening, for the new gen Tundra in the 2022 model year.

Yep. Hence why I said it. Just because Toyota has not made it public does not mean “Toyota” has not already confirmed this. These decisions were made years ago.......

We do not work for Toyota is my point what they have decided to or not is not public knowledge at this time. What you are stating is a speculation that they have decided on without any Official source in itself. The Hybrid and Twin Turbo engine is from sources not from Toyota officially. The only thing that has come to light is Lexus announcing a Twin Turbo V8. I am not holding my breath on anything until Toyota has officially said it to be so. Sources can be wrong and everything out that Toyota has not made official statements for are speculations and rumors.

Again...read between the lines...just because it’s not publicly official does not mean it isn’t happening.

It’s all good my friend. I won’t disclose how this information was confirmed because at the end of the day people need to feed their families. I will say the OP is on point and anyone who wants to believe any other speculation is welcome to it. Crow however doesn’t taste too good.

I would love a TT V8. I would be very tempted to pick one up quickly. However, if they only offer a TT V6 I will think long and hard about driving my 5.7 for the next 15-20 years and just replace parts as necessary. 20k in upgrades makes for a very nice vehicle and is still a third of the cost of a new well optioned Tundra.

The whole plan for me was to wait until the 2020 model because of the addition of the smart door handles/remote start and larger display CarPlay/android auto....but most importantly was because of it being one of the final 2 model years for the 5.7. This has been planned since I bought my 2016. I never wanted to buy the first model year of a new generation and a year or so ago when I got final confirmation on the death of the 5.7 in the Tundra for 2022 in lieu of the TT V6 hybrid, I knew I was holding my 2020 for awhile. Just need to wait another year for magnuson to get the tune for the 2020 and I’ll be a happy camper until I have been sold on the new motor/tranny package

Knew what you wanted and went for it. Best way to buy a vehicle. Similar reasons that I pounced on a 2019. I absolutely HATE android auto and didn't want it in my truck. Was a huge selling point for me to get the 19 over the 20, but I very much wish I had the push button start, smart handles, and remote start. Still, not worth dealing with phone apps that are intrusive.

The other manufacturers have all found ways to keep a V8, hopefully Toyota is able to as well. But you're not wrong.

Perhaps the powers that be will take another look at the current CAFE standards, and adjust them accordingly.

Can't wait for a hybrid option. Toyota has been slow to use new tech for a reason, they bring out tried and true technology. The 5.7 and 4.6 are archaic motors but they work very well. I'm hopeful this hybrid will be just like their other hybrids, bulletproof. Would be nice to have better MPG too.

They have also embraced the V6 in trucks instead of a V8 (Raptor)

Well, if you wind up being right, then maybe the plus side is Toyota will reduce the price of the TRD exhaust in an effort to sell off existing stock. When life gives you lemons.....

Agree. Don't want to get political but there is some that will push for the standards and others that would delay it.

I think it’s been embraced to the degree that it’s the only option. If they offered a comparable V8 I don’t think the V6 would sell much

If the Tundra as offered with a TT V8 I think it would steal a ton of sales from the big 3.

I think the new Tundra will finally catch up with regards to tech and other features. Similar to how the 2nd gen took the market by storm in 2007.

if they offer the V6 as the only option, they will merely have caught up. If they offer a TT V8, they will surpass the big 3

To be honest, I’m closer to buying a RAM Rebel or Powerwagon than I am a new Tundra.

I really hope Toyota does right by the Tundra.
