I would suggest chopping it but not plating it until the wheels are on.

So much this. I had to chop more that I thought I would have, I was glad to not have to cut them back off.

440.00 is a "we don't want to do it " price.

$440.00 dang add two hundred bucks more and that’s the price of a good welder from Lincoln.

For those who have done this to there own truck, when welding on the plate, do you guys disconnect the battery or not worry about it?

Definitely, disconnect the battery, easy cheap insurance to protect your electrical system.

I did. Also, weld small sections at a time to not heat it up too much. Pretty sure you can melt the rubber bushings on the cab mount.

Yup, I second that, small welds are necessary. I also kept a bucket of water and rags to surround the bushing and also to dab the metal between welds for cooling.

I did a little write up on my BMC. If you want to check it out.

I did unhook my battery at the negative battery post while welding on my cab chop. It’s not mandatory but it’s a good idea.
My trucks brain, and radio, etc came back without any issues at all.
I have a Lincoln mig welder 220 Volt W/gas mix bottle.

A few inches above the cab chop are 2 vertical seams that stick out, you’ll see it when you remove the plastic inner wheel well. tires will rub, if not delt with, some people hammer thoes seams flat. (Bend them over).
I trimmed it, and then welded the seams together. Repainted black.

Small white corner is the bottom of the fender flair
bigger tires may require more need to message some inner structures.
    Hope that helps

Got it done today. JMB Off-Road in Anaheim was great. Took under 4 hours, looks great in my opinion.
