So I recently bought a 2020 Tundra SR 4x4 DoubleCab with the 40/20/40 front bench seat. I love that the truck doesn't have a center console for my knees to knock against. However, it would be nice if I had a an extra cup holder or two and maybe a spot to add a Ram Mount for my phone. Normally, I like to have my phone mounted in the middle but somewhat out of sight of the windshield. Since I have the 40/20/40 front seat that means I also have the column shifter which is the area I have mounted my phones in previous vehicles in the past, but I think if I mounted my phone in that area it would get in the way of the column shifter. I got to thinking (always a dangerous thing) and thought it would be pretty handy if there was a product that replaced the headrest with a tray and an extra cupholder, storage etc. I was unable to find any such product available but I was able to find one guy on YouTube who made the same type of thing himself for his F150. Curious if anyone else has made/seen any more of these type of front bench seat headrest replacements? I want to build one myself and looking for more ideas! Below is a picture of my current setup and a picture and video of the guy that built his own

I don't have a specific recommendation for your issue at this point, but am curious as to the need to mount a phone in eyesight? Is it for maps, checking messages, changing music, or just having quick access to the phone? The 2020 has apple and android car play (I think the SR model does too), so plugging the phone in gets you maps, music, texts, etc on the infotainment screen so you could stash the phone on the dash or a tray or cup holder without needing to see it. Just trying to see the goal of mounting the phone to provide the best rec.

This is mainly to just get more storage etc, but also because there is no other really good place to mount phone...I don't like my phone taking up a cup holder and there is no other place really to put the phone. I like the idea of having the phone mounted in that area in the middle because the usb plug is in the middle and you have to plug it in to have all that stuff work for Android Auto. Also, I am not 100 percent dead set on having to have a mount, the tray I am planning on building could also just serve the purpose of being 'that spot" to place the phone.

You could search on Amazon for dash phone mount for something that mounts with 3M tape to the right side of the infotainment screen and has a bendy arm on it. That may be the best bet. Also, I have seen a thing on amazon that may work for you.

I do not have a recommendation for a tray or other contraption but now you have got me thinking... uh oh!

Anyhow, I think I understand your situation being a six seater as well. However, mine is a dedicated middle seat and very rarely do I ever use the swing down console. My rear garbage container is attached to the back of it.

I placed a magic mount on the dash for my phone and is completely visible and never obstructed with the column shifter. It is placed on the dash for many reasons but for right now it is my temporary dash camera... I also relocated the factory charger to not have a long charger cable to keep the dash clean.

I have the little dash cubby for when I necessitate a larger screen for etc. Or course only when stopped and not while I am rolling. I did devise my cup holder and use it nearly every time I am in the truck! It does all the usual 12 ouncers and such. I have even used it to hold 1 liter drinks too, although I do not do that often nor recommend it.

    Best of luck and cheers!
    Matt

Relocating that charger port is a really cool idea (that cable holder looks pretty nifty too). Thanks for sharing. I was worried that the column shifter would interfere with the phone mounted up on the dash, but it seems to work! I am going to get to work on building something shortly and ill get back on here and post the results

The relocation of the AUX/USB Charger was not too hard to do either. There probably is also an extra blank where you could relocate above the brake controller too.

Look forward to seeing your end results!

    Best,
    Matt

I found the middle"Seat" to be a complete pain and always in my way and I also do not like to encourage passengers in general so I yanked that pig out and had at it with my own idea!

Lots of storage and surface everywhere to mount all kinds of things.
I also swapped the radio out for one with Sat. but kept the Scosche Magnetic Mount and stick my phone there mostly and it works well.

I was a little worried about the trim piece it is mounted on but it seems pretty solid really so far.

Ham Radio stuff and Cup Holders coming next!

    Ahh Much Better!

    Hi, ezdog,

I had seen your set-up previously and even thought about doing something like it previously, albeit for a moment.

Call me old(er) school but there is still something precious, nostalgic about having your SO on your arm or in this case, sitting beside me...

Ahh... shucks... ain’t that sweet?

It is all good, to each our own, cheers!

I agree with all of that too but the "Bench" in the Tundra is actually not a Bench at all.
There is no difference between the main seats from any other Tundra and the middle is just a huge odd box bolted at a different height in between them?
I couldn't even really use the Arm Rest due to the height and the storage was just weird and almost useless to me too.

Add to that the Bench in my 2001 is a true Bench Seat and I knew that I had to make a console of my own.

Much more useful as I really just use the Tundra for long road trips for work by myself so no regerts here!

OK and I like playing with plywood too.

A cheap easy storage idea. Got this at AutoZone, adds 2 cup holders and holds a variety of items. Had to trim the back of it slightly on my table saw to get it to fit but that was easy.

following... seems like the head rest replacement is brilliant. helpful, but not permanent and easy enough to swap out when you have a 6th passenger.

Where did you get the recolored dash panels? Or is that a wrap?

    Hi, BubbaDude,

All the panels are stock. I disassembled them for color match paint to the truck.

    Thanks for looking!
