Sweet. SIL is ASE certified, but he's not much over 30. He took a job with the votech he graduated from for the state benefits and has a side business as well. I will admit, the vehicle I had before the tundra was a1998. Tundra is 2013 that I bought new. It was 2 years later when I found out there's no throttle cable, fly by wire. So maybe the old rules don't apply :notsure:. Acorns definitely add another twist.
I agree, fixing stuff is much easier than figuring out what's wrong. But diagnosis is much more fun. The best job I ever had was when I was a deck plate engineer on submarines. But the $ are in management. Dealing with people. People suck.

Yes it’s a safety thru manufactures when a misfire is detected to override certain features on vehicles

Start with a fresh battery. Especially if it’s over three years old.

So I climbed under and checked the wires running to the sensor.

Sounds like our challenges are a bit different for sure now. I did two things today. I picked up a cheap test light and tested all of my fuses. My reverse light was blown. I replaced it and noticed something odd. I had my daughter jump in the truck. Started it up and had her put it in reverse. The white reverse lights came on only for a moment and then went away. They were not on when she reversed the truck. Odd.

The other thing I did was climb under the truck and trace the wires to the wheel speed sensors. I followed them until they went into a larger wiring harness. I didn’t see any obvious damage or frays.

Out or curiosity, how do I check the speed sensors?

Oh and 5ive7even - that really blows about the squirrels. I hope the wiring isn’t wrecked.

I’ve heard some strange stuff can happen when the reverse lights fuse gets blown. Have you done any upgrades to the lighting? Possible one of the contacts in the lighting housing is touching. Cheap LEDs?

Also of you want to tag someone

Speed sensors are Hall affect sensors so it’s a magnet that reads of a wheel you can check the with a Multimeter set to AC voltage put read lead on one pin black lead on the other and spin the wheel if you have a scanner with data you can go into the ABS module and see if the sensors read wen you are driving

The short answer is no, I haven’t changed to any LED lights.

The long answer is I bought the truck used about three years ago. It had an aftermarket tow control installed. Then a year later I had a remote starter installed. I had no major issues with it the first years I owned it. The past six months I’ve had to do a fair amount of work to it. I had new fuel tank straps installed (the others rusted right off and my tank almost fell off.) Then had a power steering line rupture after rubbing on a rusty area. Next I had my rear brake lines fixed after they also got too rusty and had a bad leak. I lost all brake pressure just around the corner from my house. While I had it in the shop for that repair I had them throw on new tires. They recommended a complete brake replacement of rotors and pads. I laughed at the price tag and replaced the rotors and pads myself.

15wtrd is correct check them bulbs sometimes led bulbs can cause issues as well and for safety you can just apply E brake turn the key to on position put the shifter on R and you can diagnose your lights don’t have to be running

hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the suggestions so far. I'd be at a total loss without some of the suggestions I was given here. I'm not afraid to do some of my own mechanical work but I don't have the knowledge of these vehicles to do any kind of diagnostic work.

as an update to my situation, I did a few little things tonight after work to see if anything would change. I bought 8 new irridium spark plugs, ended up changing one out and swapping an ignition coil from bank 2 over to see if one of my codes would go away, nothing changed. a diesel mechanic at work told me to check my injector fuses to make sure I didn't blow one as that might be causing bank 1 to misfire. all of my fuses lit up my test light. I unplugged the new led low beam headlights I put in it and that didn't seem to do anything after clearing the codes and shutting it down. it will run but it's still pretty rough and I think my next step is to have it towed to a shop.

is there another fuse panel besides the one under the hood that I could check? or anything anyone else can think of that might help me out? hate to be a bother but I don't know what else to do

You can do a compression test on bank 1 and that will help you on the next step of diagnosing you can buy them on Amazon for 40 dollars I’m sure Harbor Freight sells them not sure if have that store in your city.

Man that stinks that it hasn’t worked out yet. Im definitely not the right guy for expert advice. I can do oil changes, brakes, some light electrical wiring and basic stuff.

Update for me though: yesterday o climbed under my truck. I traced all the wiring from the wheel speed sensors. I also touched and made sure that the speed sensors were secured in place. No apparent issues there.

Then I replaced my blown tail light fuse.

Today I drove it to work with all my dash lights on as usual. I ran around on my lunch break and realized all my dash lights had shut off. No more check engine light, 4LO, VSC or traction control. It’s like it just decided it was too tired and went away. I did notice my gear is still not showing on my dash. So it’s not showing of it’s in park or drive. Odd.

I wish you much luck man.

It’s been two-three days and my check engine light and other lights are still off. So far so good.

Except my muffler rusted and fell off just before I got on the highway...damn NY weather.
