@Fspmdt I have 2.5 lift and 34, but no gears or LSD , do you like the 4.88 with the 34s?

Yeah the truck is happier. It doesn’t hunt gears and is always in the power and so to speak. I would do it again for sure

Iv got 34's on 20's. I have a new camper that weighs 6,400lbs. What you guys think, should I run 4.88's or 5.29's?

I also have 34's on 20's. Everyone said that 5.29 was too much, but I took the advice of @dirtydeeds and went with the 5.29. I am glad I did. I do have a supercharger though, so that probably makes at least some difference over the NA.

I only tow 3500 max right now, and even that it rarely. I like the 5.29 gears just for normal driving.

While you are in there, definitely add a Limited Slip Differential. I didnt necessarily need the LSD, just the strength. I went with the PowerTrax GripPRO and dirtydeeds helped me get that as well.

Give Keith at dirty deeds a call and he can help you out. Im glad I did. http://dirtydeedsindustries.com/about/

IMHO one always feels better "overwhelmed" vs "underwhelmed".

Poor wording unfortunately but what I mean is, you are investing a lot of money to regear. Would you rather be overgeared for the future or geared "just right" for now? Especially towing 6400lbs...

4.88s may always have you thinking, "what if". Usually it doesn't work the other way (5.29s rather than 4.88s - doubt youd be saying what if I went "smaller"/shorter/ higher/however you want to word it).

I went with 5.29s with 34s, knowing i was going up in tire size. i also tow a 6k 26 foot camper and the gears made it a world easier to tow and maintain speed on hills without have to mash the gas and drop down to 2nd gear. I just went to 37s last week, so i do not know how mush towing will be effected

Has anyone heard of the 5.29 not being strong enough for offroading and towing?

I have 4.88 Nitro Gears installed F/R. What gear oil are y'all using now? Nitro recommended their brand, 80w-140. Wondering if anyone uses anything different?
