Whole different ball game there! I used to drive to the strip in my Camaro with 35 psi in my et street drag radials and drop them to 12psi for racing. Fill them back up for the ride home. Had a lot of fun but man I should’ve saved all those thousands I spent on that car 20 years ago.

They're trucks, mileage is secondary. My '72 Chev. with a 402 big block and a real 4 speed manual transmission got maybe 8 miles to the gallon, but it was a torque monster. Trucks are the wrong vehicle if mileage is a concern, at least how i see it. When I needed to commute lots of miles I bought an econo box for that, now I don't have to commute daily, so it's gone, but the Tundra still remains. Now motorcycles are my commuter of choice. Life is a compromise.

I have close to 300k on my 04’ 4wd access cab. It consistently gets between 16-17mpg unless towing where it gets 12 something. I’m doing all highway miles. I figure my tank range is like 100 miles a quarter. I’m filling up around the 330 range on trip a, putting around 20 gallons in. I’ve watched each tank range on trip a for 200,000 miles or so.

oddly enough my 21’ 2.5 gen double cab 4x4with the 5.7, I consistently get 17-18. It’s got more gears I guess. If I play around I can get over 20mpg easy. I think I only got 19mpg on the first gen once ever.

watching the 2nd gen eco thing. It’s like one long trip 22mpg, back the truck out of the garage to move cars around. .6mpg, take the kid to school 5.8mpg, going to work is 1mph less than coming home. I figure there is a little more of the route downhill the one direction, if I have to let the truck idle for any amount of time I can watch the gas gauge fall. It’s worthless but I can’t stop watching it. In this tank the average has been as low as 17.6 and as high as 19.3. It’s sitting at 18.9 with 176 miles of range left.

Well, some of us have to commute long miles....with lots of stuff....so its somewhat of a concern.

Just got back from a 500 mile fishing road trip.
2006 DC 2WD pulling a 15 foot Boston Whaler, a couple coolers, generator, extra fuel, camping & fishing gear, photography gear etc. etc.
Averaged right at 15 MPG . I tried to keep it under 65 mph. Never ran the AC.
Had some pretty nasty headwinds for 40-50 miles.
    Everything stock on the truck . . . I do have a cab-height shell.
    Could be worse, no complaints.

I guess two things I do driving. Once I get out of town and up to 55mph I always use the cruise. The truck always drives. Then to stop at a upcoming stop sign, I bump the brake to take the cruise off and pretty much coast to a stop barely using my brakes. So I’m coasting a considerable distance each stop. Just those two things should get you a few mpg better.

I too use cruise constantly given the area I’m in….hardly any stop/go city traffic. I do however consciously observe upcoming inclines that would cause the engine to sense an increase in resistance. At that time I will not kick cruise off but simply take control of accelerator and keep it somewhat above the rpm’s I was at before hill climb. Once over the hill, I’ll let cruise be back in control.

Just finished a trip from AZ to MT of 1222 miles while towing a 6'x12' I-Haul. My average mileage was 12.4mpg. I ran most of the trip at 75+mph.

I decided to use 91 octane due to the heavy load and high speed after listening to the engine screaming on the hills with 87 for the first leg. Yes, the manual states standard fuel is adequate. I noticed that it didn't downshift as far and sounded a bit quieter.

So far I’ve covered 1800 some miles on this trip. Worst tank was 14.72 and best was 16.2 so far. Pretty happy with that considering the tires and running 80-90 down i95 for most of that. How large is the 05 gas tank? Only had the fuel light come on once and that fillip was 21.5 gallons.

I had to go look. You're correct. We've had more fuel in it than we thought. I thought 22.5 because somebody told us that.

I bought it used for my wife to have truck when I had to work out of state for a couple years. I rarely drove it because my personal truck was a '00 F250 7.3L. I loved that truck. I'm starting to like the Tundra almost as much.

It doesn't make any sense until you realize the lines are 8 counts. 2nd line is 16, so you can see clearly what a count of 2 is, and the needle is about the same distance from the 16 line, putting you right around 14. You're not wrong, it's pretty damn stupid, must've been an engineer who was crazy about 8s that designed it :D
