    It's amazing what sales people will tell you when they're trying to sell you a vehicle (we could probably start a whole new thread on that subject). When I was negotiating for mine, I was complaining about the cost of the dealer-installed Line-X spray-in liner (which I wanted anyway). The sales guy told me "but if you don't get it, the bed will rust out in a year or two"! I immediately told him to go away and dealt with the sales manager from that point forward.

    Yep....when I was going over my new ride, I noticed the green valve stem caps, and then noted the $100 charge for nitrogen filled tires. Some believe in it, but I'm not one of them. Ultimately, that was a charge that was removed from the final sale price. From now on, I'll be putting in regular 'ole Summer and Winter air.

    I've had both. Like the others have said, it really depends on what you need it for. Towing heavy loads, such as a RV, go with the 5.7. I pulled a large RV with my 5.7 and I needed all the power and more. Retired now and not pulling anything anymore. My TSS 2016, 4.6 has plenty of power cruising around town with the misses. Getting the huge price breaks and rebates with the 4.6 just made a lot of sense for my situation. MPG didn't even factor in.

    I throw in with the rest of the lot, 5.7 is the way to go. 4.6 will always leave you wondering... what if?

    HOWEVER, my first Tundra was a 4.6 with the tow package (cooler on the front, hitch and receptacles), got only SLIGHTLY better gas mileage HOWEVER it pulled whatever I needed it to and it never let me down.

    I've got the 5.7 now and I do't think I could go back.

    At least up here in Canada the 4.6L's do not come with the tow package nor the upgrades under the hood to increase the max capacity. This began within the last few model years. So I can't speak to models previous, but clearly they used to come with them. I think it was with the '14 year model, or shortly thereafter. I can't speak to American models, but it would be easy enough to verify on your Toyota.com or Toyota.ca websites.

    The better overall value is usually to just purchase the 5.7L if you plan on ever reselling the truck, or if you are not 100% of what towing/hauling may be required in the future. Like many have said, it's better to have than not use, than not be able to ever due to not having...

    Ultimately it's your money and budget, but there is my 2 cents.

    As I said I have a 4.6 because of the deal I got (needed a truck right then and not a lot of Financial wiggle room)

    Although, next truck I get, it's definitely going to be a 5.7

    If you lift your truck and get larger tires, power sap is more of a concern for the smaller engine. People with 5.7 don't usually give much thought. If you don't plan to lift your truck or tow anything heavy, 4.6 should be adequate. But what's fun in that?

    5.7L.......if gas mileage is the primary concern. The tundra is the wrong option for either motor haha. That aside I have no regrets getting the 5.7L. Plus I dont think you can get 4:30 gearing with the 4.6L even though you can get a tow package.

    I was looking at three dealer ships out here in AZ when I was looking and all three told me the same thing. I never bothered looking into because I wanted the 5.7 with the tow package and larger fuel tank. they must all have the same play book. lol

    Get the 5.7, if you get a bigger trailer you won't even care to do the math. You will with the 4.6. Plus how will you pull a ford out of a mud puddle with ease?

    Get the 5.7. The smaller V8 might work for your needs, but the 5.7 will work if you end up with heavier loads and/or trailers. Also, a few people have mentioned the good deals to be had on the 4.6; I think that might be bc there is a smaller demand for that engine. The 5.7 will almost certainly maintain a higher resale value if you ever decide to sell bc that is the engine the majority of truck buyers want

    One final note on what size engine to get on your truck: I did a side-by-side resale comparison on Cars.com between two exact 2016 Tundras. One with the 4.6. The other with the 5.7. The results show a range depending on condition. The best dollar amount the 5.7 will fetch you over the 4.6 is $1,400. That's at the low end. For trucks in mint condition, the difference drops to $600. As everyone here has said, the 5.7s are in bigger demand because they can do more than the 4.6s. However, I believe the dealers know this and inflate the price to take advantage of the buyer. Again, the biggest factor should be how you will use your truck, and possible use of it in the future.     I have been driving a 4.7L 4spd OD Tundra for 13 years, I added JBA headers and a TRD/Kazuma LSD.
    Performance has been great, but I made the mistake of test driving an '08 with a 5.7L with 6spd OD.
    I am now searching for the right used truck with a 5.7L :)

    The first time I drove a 5.7, I immediately grew more chest hair and my jeans were snug around the ball area.

    In all honesty though, both engines are awesome. Most of us recommend the 5.7 because it's the bigger and more capable out of the two choices. Do most of us need that extra power? Probably not. But then again, who actually NEEDS bacon on top of their cheeseburger?
