what is the largest tire I can run on a 20" wheel (the stock TRD wheel) with 0 offset and no trimming (or maybe some minor mud flap trimming), with the 3" TRD kit installed? alternatively, how big can I go if I offset just a little bit?

For those running the dobinsons ims kit how do you like the ride compared to stock ? Would love to hear if it’s worth the money

Dobinson 2/1 Suspension lift build and review. My truck is 2023 Tundra trd sport
    1. Setup:
      2/1 dobinson lift kit
      Icon differential drop kit
      Icon sway bar drop kit
Set of dobinson PS59-4032 1/4 inch shims.
This setup replaced my 3/1 spacer lift that was too harsh
The ride is 100x better, smoother and more controlled and factory comfort like ride inside cab with a higher lift than the spacer kit.
The rear lift springs and shocks got me about 1.75 inch of lift from factory height now sitting almost at 25.5inch from center wheel hub. Was 23.75inch before.
The front lift got me two inches lift from the springs and shocks with the recommended 175mm setting. I added the dobinson 1/4 inch shims and got another 1/2 inch of lift without sacrificing preload. Total height lift was about 2.5 inch of lift in front. Front now measures 24.75 inches from center wheel hub. I have about 3/4 inch of rake and it sits perfect.
The truck is used for mainly street use, not much 4 wheeling on Long Island besides the beach and some nasty pot holes. So the stock UCA’s are fine and the stock factory black cv axles are fine as well, no need to upgrade until ur stock equipment wears out. The truck aligned perfectly. I've been looking a bit more seriously at suspension lately.

    I'm considering the following:
    • Fox Performance Elite Series 2.5 Coil-Over Reservoir Front 0-3" Shock Adjustable 883-06-218
    • Fox Performance Elite Series 2.5 Coil-Over Reservoir Rear 1.5-3" Shock Adjustable 883-26-141
    • TRD Upper Control Arms PT985-3432B & PT985-3431B
    • Dr. KDSS Trackbar correction kit
    • Yotamafia extended brake lines
    • Old Man Emu or Dobinson's rear coils - I'm looking for around a 2.5-3" lift, as the camper shell adds a bit of weight and I tow fairly regularly
I suspect it's a bit early for anyone to have the Fox setup mounted yet, as it was just released, but I'm curious to see folks opinions.

If you can swing this setup, do it. Sounds like something I would do if I had the dough.

Nobody talked me out of it, so I'm going through with the above list.

I'm undecided between the two rear spring choices:
    • Dobinson C59-843V 2" 220-440 lb load
    • ARB 2863 2" 440 lb load
Is there another option I'm leaving out? I'd like approximately 2.5-3" of lift with my camper shell installed.

Sounds like a nice setup. Curious why you choose the TRD UCA vs another aftermarket manufacturer.

Have you considered getting both shocks struts and front and rear coils from the dobinson? Seems like may be better fit if all of the items from them so it'll be matched together better?

Ryan was with Nader which one u went with for rear springs? I am doing the TRD lift but don’t want to use their rear shims, soon replace the spring and get the lift need by using another spring.

I had SPC Upper Control Arms on my Tacoma and they needed to have the grease topped off regularly. I didn't really want to mess with it on this truck. I do realize I'll need to rebuild the shocks every couple of years, so maybe I'm being selective on maintenance.

Also, they are $372 delivered from BAM Wholesale. I'm 100% not scared to spend more money to get a better product, so if anyone has another recommendation, I'm all ears.

Matching brands is not a concern. The Fox shocks are pretty adjustable and work with a rear lift from 1.5"-3"

I'm curious if there is another brand of rear spring with the specs I'm looking for. I have a camper shell on the truck, so I'll have a continuous load.

I also tow regularly. I'll install an Airlift bag set at some point if necessary later.

Talk to text? :monocle: I haven't bought the rear springs yet. I'm looking for recommendations.

    Issues with Dobinson customer service.

So short story, I have a 2022 TRD PRO, with about 380lbs of gear on back. I was one of the earlier ones to try out the Dobinson coils just on rear to help level out the truck. For the ones rated for 250-440 lbs with 1” lift. Overall it’s been great, perfectly leveled out the truck and smooth ride. More recently I noticed a small clacking sound going over bumps. Took it to my local installer and they found the first few coils are clacking into each other over bumps.

anyone else with this issue? My local installer has done 8 other tundras with a little more weight on back, and also called runnin4tacos who I ordered from who has also never had this happen.

Dobinson customer service out of Florida has been a little disappointing. Fairly dismissive of the issue, and stating it’s a normal finding and that the solution is to wrap some rubber around the coils up top. The anodized coating has already chipped off in places. I asked to escalate the issue and again, they were fairly dismissive and asked me to go back, take coils back off the truck and measure the free height. From their perspective I get that they can’t just hand out free goods, but when there is video showing the issue and my local shop coordinating with them to problem solve the issue, shouldn’t that be enough for them to question if the coil is providing enough tension at the upper end of the coil?

It’s easy to tell a customer to simply go take them off, and redo a measurement they should have recommended during the initial diagnosis as they were coordinating with my local shop (a dealer) but they didn’t. The cost to even go back and get that done is more than the cost of ordering the coils.

Venting a little, and ultimately I will probably just spend the money and order one tension level up. I’m just worried about a harsher ride going up a level. I just wish that the product would have met the specs defined, and that the company would actually seem to care a little more. But such is life.

Photo below shows how close the coils are to each other and someone bouncing on back of truck makes them hit and clank. Couldn’t post the video like I wanted to.

Yes sorry I didn’t specify, with stock TRD PRO rear shocks.

I did clear this install with Dobinson prior to getting it done.

FWIW, I had the same symptoms in an otherwise stock 2023 Limited TRD-OR w/ the Dobinsons 1” rear coils rated for 220-440 lbs, but only after the weight in the back of the truck decreased to <200 lbs. I could also reproduce the noise by closing the tailgate. When I no longer had 400 lbs static weight in the back I had the stock rear coils put back in and the noise disappeared.

Though it may not feel like a satisfying answer, I suspect the Dobinsons folks are right - wrapping the upper coils in rubber tubing may solve the issue for you. In a recent installation video of their MRR kit on a 3rd gen (by Shock Surplus IIRC), the installer removed rubber tubing from the factory rear coils and installed them on the Dobinsons coils. It’s possible Dobinsons didn’t realize this step was necessary at the time you purchased as an early adopter.

I can understand your frustration - I’ve been there. Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

I have the dobinsons 2” rear cold 0-110 in red on my tundra ad they clickkity clack as well. I transferred over my stock rubber spring isolators from my stock rear springs when I installed them. They are for the bottom side and cam confirm its the upper spring’s coils touching thats making the noise. Assuming its a progressive coil design but makes the tundra sound hella cheap. Lol.

Please note, I have the dobinons rear track bar as well as the new Dr. Kdss BOTCK kit installed.

I’ve been contemplating going back to stock springs with my cornfed rear spacers or getting icon rear coils. I just really dig the dobinsons red powdercoat.

This is my set up to give you some more insight on rear springs. OME 2865 springs, Icon basic rear shocks, and C4 rear bumper (150lbs)

It’s a little stiffer than I’d like but works.

Thanks for input everyone. Yeah, sounds like the Dobinson are progressive, while stock TRD PRO coils were linear. I can’t say given my sub 400 load springs should be touching over small bumps. I do think putting rubber around the top springs could would work but would imagine over daily load hitting bumps it would degrade pretty quickly, as the weight was enough to strip powdercoat at the interfacing edges of the coils. Dobinson didn’t seem to mind the powdercoat coming off either which was interesting.

I’m thinking the solution is to size up in tension, I feel that the coils are really suited for sub 200-300lbs weight to keep the clacking at a minimum. But def agree, makes the truck sound so cheap and rattly.

IMG_9250.jpg Just got a Dobinson MRR installed, IMG_9249.jpg Just got the dobinson MRR installed (2”/1”) and checked the front axel a day later… grease is everywhere.

It looks as though, they tried to pry off the boot and had to reattach it…

the trd OR axels should have been able to accommodate the 2” lift right??
