Has anyone changed out the rear shocks on a truck with factory air bags in the rear? This would be on a NON AVS truck but one that does have the rear air. I presume it would be the same swap as a non air truck (just swapping shock bodies) but the air version loses the ability for the upgraded springs in the rear.

I haven't done any swapping yet but ordered a stage 4 Icon set for mine with factory rear air suspension. Kit doesn't include any rear lift stuff except shocks and I don't like the idea of just inflating the bags more for a lift so I also ordered the Readylift 2" spacer lift for the Tundra. That kit has spacers for the rear bags versus new brackets!

aah I like that Readylift kit for the rear. TY. I was not aware that was out. Looks to be a similar route that other MFG's (Ram, Ford, etc) have gone in the past for rear air trucks.

Yep I agree. Suprised they are the only ones to do it so far that I know... much better than just adjusting the bracket though!

    Definitely a different part number
Maybe someone that have access to both can measure them. I would be highly surprised that Toyota makes two different parts just for 1” of lift on the Pro. Here is the two parts number 5D8BF5A6-9743-41B8-9934-CD2065831C1B.jpg

True, I guess technically you could double them up for even more lift. I'm not planning to ever to go that high though

In the past, I would have 100% agreed with this statement. Toyota used to be about efficiency & uniformity during design & assembly. I.E. Using uniform wiring harnesses across trim levels and just not using every pigtail if that individual truck wasn't spec'd out with a particular option (like bed lights or fog lights). However, it seems nowadays, Toyota does things quite a bit different. Now they use completely different wiring harnesses based on different options, etc.

I suspect there has got to be some difference in the axles. Either in length or range of operating angles since they bothered to differentiate them by painting them different colors. Also, I assume Icon has tested their products on different platforms (or...like a lot of major aftermarket vendors...have design conversations with Toyota Engineering) that caused them to include the tech note about axle compatibility. Otherwise, they'd be needlessly eliminating a portion of their potential customer base. :notsure:

In a similar vein as @virgilus11, I'm curious about axle differences...but the difference between the Silver & Reds. The one video that we've all seen of the 3rd party installer comparing the 2 axles makes it seem like the length & shaft diameter is the same. I'm guessing Toyota extended the boots on the silver to allow for higher angles.

In a vacuum, all I can do is compare the aftermarket axles. Trakmotive offers an OE-replacement standard axle (note: they make no difference between the standard axle for "Sport", "TRD Off Road", or base trims). Trakmotive also offers a high angle CV axle for lifted 3rd Gen Tundras. The TO8250XTT is the high angle axle. Their specs show no length differences between the two. The high angle axle appears to have a reinforced shaft & looks to have a beefier boot on the outboard side of the shaft.

I believe the 3” kit use a longer axle

I remember seen a pic somewhere showing a TRD Off Road axle close to an extended axle. I will try to find it.

I'm pretty sure it is not longer. See my post above. There's a video by a 3rd party installer (found the link here) and looks like they're the same length. Like the Trakmotive axles in my post above, I think the difference might be in the boots & range of operating angles.

That’s great news. Looks like the confusion is coming from What is been called. TRD extended CV axle. But based on what you are saying,, the total length is the same. The housing and the boot may be or are definitely different.
, TheYotaGarage is offering the A arms and the axle that comes in the 3” lift kit from Toyota if anyone is interested.

I am planing in just one inch of lift to allow more clearance for the 315 that I already installed. Ideal, for me would be the OEM TRD pro shocks. (like the internal bypass) , the A arms from the 3” lift kit and the extended CV axle.
Anyone have experience with TheYotaGarage please ?
    Thank you.

They don't have the greatest reputation here on the forum. I don't think the negativity comes from poor products, necessarily. I think it all originates from the fact they buy OEM parts and then mark them up crazy ridiculous amounts.

Case in point is the TRD Pro-style grill. They sell it for $400 ($370 on sale right now). I ordered mine through my local Toyota parts counter for $240.

Just quoted trd upper control arms shipped to hawaii by Mcgeorge Toyota $394.82 includes shipping and tax.

That versus $480 without shipping and tax to Hawaii from Yotagarage. I’m sure they will quite me at least $80 for shipping to Hawaii and tax roughly $20.

They quoted $230 ea. No extra for shipping and I asked if they would price match and was a firm “sorry, not for trd branded items”

Anyone running the Icon Stage 4 set up on their rigs? I have the kit and will be having it installed next month and I wanted to get opinions and set ups. I wanted to do 3 inches up front and I have 1” cornfed spacers for the rear. I also had my installer order a diff drop kit due to mine being a sport. Trying to get an idea if that sits level or not. I’m also curious if I could do larger springs like dobinson or ARB 2 inch in the rear but I’m worrying that the new icon rear shock is o-1” in this kit. Any suggestions or setups? Thanks all

I'm running the Stage 4 kit up front, but didn't use the Icon shocks in the rear. I decided to build my own rear end setup about 8 weeks after I ordered my kit in July. My setup & measurements are in a post on my build thread post. I went OME (ARB) springs in the rear but you could easily go with Dobinsons. I went OME because of availability.

Have a question for any of you guys that might be running a similar setup.. I just pulled the trigger on a set of Icon VS 2.5 Series internal reservoir front coilovers and 2.0 VS IR Shock Absorber - 56516 for the rear. A pair of Toyota TRD UCA's will be going on at the same time.

I currently have a Ready Lift 2" spacer lift that the Icon suspension will replace. The truck currently sets dead level. I tow a decent amount and would like to add in just .25" of rake back to the setup.. This should also provide a nice plush ride with the new Icons (I hope!)

Anyone have an idea of where I should set the preload on these coilovers in order to get me into that range, or at least close to it? I just now though of it, but i'm guessing I should have ordered an adjustment wrench as well...

TRD Off-Road PKG, Crew Max, 6.5' bed. All stock bumper and weight wise, with exception of the Air-Lift air bags in the rear w/ OBA. Appreciate any advice y'all might have.

I believe icon ships then set at 2 or 2.5in, a call to them should answer that. Then ask how many turns per 1/4in of lift. You will sit higher initially while the springs break in and eventually settle down

The coilovers aren't that bad of a price for a remote resi setup.

I wonder who actually makes these for RC? Warranty on these is a couple years shorter than the 5 year warranty that seems to be the industry standard. As far as I know, RC only makes a few things in house. Basic metal items such as spacers, step rails, bumpers, etc. I.E. Things without moving parts that are CNC cut metal pieces that are welded together. Anything that has moving parts or requires complex molding/manufacturing, I'm pretty sure they just outsource to a white label manufacturer and they just brand it under an RC brand.

That price seems fair but for a few hundred dollars more, one could get a more reputable coilover which is truly proven. I’m almost sure its a overseas manufacturer i.e china, taiwan

Other than that, I would swing the rough country way, there quality of stuff looks better and installed a 3.5” kit on another local 2022 Tundra and was pretty impressed with especially for the price point.

After a lot of research, I finally got my truck set up. I have a SR5 (no TRD) 4wd, that I tow a travel trailer with. I wanted to level the truck, but since I tow, I decided it would be better to keep a little rake. Prior to doing my lift I was 3" high in the back. I originally considered doing a spacer in the front and rear. I've had spacer lifts on previous trucks and they were okay, but not great. I also had Bilstein 5100's on a 2019 Ram 1500 and this was a much better option for me. I don't a lot of serious four wheeling, mostly just snow, forest roads and occasional light/medium trails (think getting to backpacking trail heads, etc.).

As we all know, right now options are limited. I wanted something budget friendly, as I'm still trying to dial this in to make it look good, perform to my needs, and tow my 7k lb travel trailer.

I ended up using a set of Rough Country 2" coil overs for the front, with a Cornfed 1" spacer for the rear. I know RC gets mixed reviews here, but this seemed like a better move than putting a spacer up front. Got everything installed last week. Truck has 2" of rake, so should sit close to level when towing. I still have to adjust my WDH and dial in the trailer, we'll see how that works out.

I'll say the RC suspension feels pretty darn close to stock. I notice a little roll, but that's probably more from the front end sitting higher. I took measurements, the front came up 2 1/4" with the RC suspension. I gained exactly 1" in the rear.

Once I know the trailer and towing are all dialed in, I may upgrade the front end stuff down the road. Probably with a lower level Icon setup.

Thought this would help for anyone in a situation similar to mine.67FAF974-BA66-471B-9FAF-0ADF58A3F376.jpgF506C9BF-051D-4E5E-91E2-CC5C54B49CA3.jpg

Anyone find the optimal adjustment setting for the king shocks? Only other mods are wheels and tires and I’m struggling to find the optimal setting with the kings, still getting a lot of unsavory road feedback. Thanks.
