V1.0 consists of 47 printed components, plus the rods (tailgate, doors, hood, & and axels) and tailgate magnets (if desired). Supports should be minimal (this was one of the main goals of this whole endeavor) with only the front bumper, rear bumper, cab floor, bed floor, front fenders and the hood needing any.

Biggest areas of concern that will need tested:
    • Supported pieces i just mentioned
    • layer height needed for details
Pretty neat what your boy is doing over there. I don't have the bandwidth to attempt anything like that currently.

As far as the frame goes, I'm guessing people that are interested in making a body for an RC would be looking for a drop-in solution that would not include any kind of frame. My idea for that would be to make a hollow "shell" that has a skeleton that attaches to the frame. The biggest hurdle with that whole undertaking would be how to get the sucker to print. The cab and bed could be separate pieces but every time you add a connection you lose rigidity and strength. The bodies available to purchase are vacuum formed, which gives you a much different product than 3d printing. I'm still reading through his posts so i'm hoping he has some ideas we can use.

    Update:

Real life projects have taken precedence and I ran into some issues with the hood not being able to export to stl.

So still trying to sort that out/remodel it.

    Stay posted.

What software are you using to do this? I am a Solidworks user and I amazed at how people like you do the organic modeling. This is so cool. I can probably print the lights for people as I have an SLA printer that does optically clear resin. For the body I think I would have to cut it up into manageable print files to fit my platform.

I do a lot of 3D printing and can not wait to see these files released so I can print one!

Any idea what the scale size will be? It'd be badass if I could drop it onto a SCX24 chassis.

I'm not sure of what CAD/modeling software you're using, but sometimes STL files can be finicky if the default tesselation settings are either too large(creates gaps in the mesh) or too small(massive file size). Since STL converts surfaces to a mesh of triangles (tesselation), using a surface modeling approach vs parametric modeling is sometimes sketchy. Have you tried exporting the files via 3MF?

Hopefully assuming OP is still interested, it’s been 12 months since his last update. Wouldn’t fault him for burning out on a one man hobby project this big.
