I'm creating this thread to document how I'm going to properly make 39" tires fit on my tundra without requiring a drop bracket lift.

If you want to add to the thread feel free. Please post lift/suspension specs, trimming required and any other mods needed.

Truck : 2017 TRD Pro with ADS Coilovers, MCM UCA's, superbumps, custom Alcan leaf springs, ADS 3 tube bypasses.

    Lift amount : front 3-3.5", rear 4".

Trimming : relocated mody mount, front fenders cut 1.5", rear tbd, tubbing tbd.

Custom bumpers by me @ S.O.B. Fabrication.

    Current photos.

Here is what the truck looked like the first day with the 39's. It was completely street driveable and even went out a few weekends camping with it set up like this. All it had at the time was a very aggressive body mount chop and the pinch weld was cut, "zippered", and hammered back a bit. This setup cleared 37's lock to lock and fully compressed.

Next order of business was a body mount relocation. I used the DRT kit for my relocation and it's a well built and thought out kit. I had an older body mount relocation on my old Tacoma and eventually had frame cracking where the mount landed on the frame, but this kit comes with a frame plate that should spread that stress point out and shouldn't have any issues.

The install for these kits is pretty straightforward and simple, the most time consuming part is getting the old mounts cut off.

With the body mount out of the way the next step is the front fenders. I made a quick tool similar to what I used when I did my Tacoma. This was inspired by @n0rth way back in the day when he cut up his tacoma. Actually, most of my mod addiction is because of him. The tool is a simple piece of steel with a hole for a bolt and the other end has a hole for a pen or marker. I decided to cut 1.5" out of the fender. Make sure to pull the fender liner out prior to making the fender.

    PXL_20231205_190359395.PORTRAIT.jpg PXL_20231205_190117816.PORTRAIT.jpg PXL_20231205_190530027.PORTRAIT.jpg PXL_20231205_191234988.PORTRAIT.jpg

After you get the line drawn, check for any obstructions and get to cutting.
People use a variety of tools for this job, but in my option the only tool to use is a jigsaw with a quality metal blade for the fenders. It cuts very easy without burning the paint and makes the curves easy.

    PXL_20231205_192901898.PORTRAIT.jpg PXL_20231205_210402485.jpg

And boom, just like that they're cut. I used an edge trim from trim lok to finish the cut edge after I touched up the paint.

    PXL_20231205_205614748.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL.jpg PXL_20231205_205631233.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL.jpg

I also built a new bumper with 1.5" taken out of the wings to fit the new fender line. It's at powdercoat now and should go back on next week.

It's pretty simple to get the rear fenders clearanced. I used the same method as the front fenders, but I only took an inch out of the rears instead of an inch and a half. I chose to do less because I can get away with it and my truck has a little rake to it and this will make it appear visually to be closer to level.
    PXL_20231215_235119326.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL.jpg PXL_20231215_235126103.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL.jpg PXL_20231215_235142711.jpg

I will be building a new rear bumper to match the new fender line as well.

Also, the bedside lost some stability due to cutting out some supports. I don't think it will cause any issues, but I may come back and build some supports to tie it all back together.

Here are a few pictures on my old Tacoma on 37's. Should be about the same process for the tundra.

First I was worried you were a mall crawler since you mentioned lift which as we know doesn't matter for "properly" clearing. But then this post gave me hope back :D Awesome thread, first time I've actually seen someone truly clear tires on a Tundra (though to be fair I only go on the supercharger threads).

You are definitely the man in the boost threads for sure. Hopefully this truck will have some of your parts one day like my shop truck!
And yeah, lift doesn't do anything for clearance. I changed it to lift/suspension haha.
This truck is not a rock crawler but I'm building it to let very few things stop me. I want it to go wherever I point it and then camp comfortably when I get there.

Glad you posted in here man! Did you do the sdhq relocate for the secondary air pump or just delete the system?

Looks great Travis, I'll never forget the look on your face when I took the plasma cutter to the fenders on your old 1st gen....hopefully I can get my junk back together soon and come out and to do fire watch in the cab when you do the tub. I would hate to see a bullhas go down.

It's easy. It didn't even take me thirty minutes to tape, mark and cut them. A jigsaw makes it simple.

Other than the work to physically fit 39s, do you have to beef up other components to handle them? Steering in particular is where my mind goes. What gears do you plan to use?

    sweet truck, btw

I've already got 5.29's. We'll see what becomes the weak point. Maybe tie rods? I will probably do spindle gussets sooner than later, but nothing planned yet.

I love how the extra bit cut out of the front fenders make the truck look way "lighter" if that makes sense. Such a sweet rig!
