$108 in Portland, OR area at a cheaper pump.

With the Kroger points program though, I get as much as a dollar off per gallon- no limit on a fill up.
I tell my wife not to use it up in her Honda so I can fill the beast for about $50.

Yes, the gauge and the remaining amount of gas is off and slightly frustrating.

San Antonio, TX that would have cost only $65 to fill up at $1.74 here at the quick trip.

My build sheet—— even using my vin on tundras.com tells me I should have 38gallon tank but I believe it to be 30gallon. I was past empty and still only put in 30gallon.... what gives?

You still had 8 gallons of fuel in the tank...
Mutiply your avg mpg x 8 and thats this distance you could drive b 4 the tank is empty and yhen it would take 38 gallons. Simple.

Yes it is. Go 30-40 miles past zero miles left and put in 33-34 gallons. Go further and you can put in even more. O and as long as fuel is going thru the fuel pump, it is fine as well. Search the above, discussed to death and proven.

:) you guys don't pull any punches... Which is fine with me. I hope it's 38 gallon. I might throw a tank in the bank and let my truck run out just so i know for sure. Let me ask you guys this question. After you fill up how many miles will your computer tell you have left to empty? I suppose i could understand an 8 gallon reserve but after i fill up my computer tells me i have approximately 420 miles to empty. So is my compute wrong also or maybe it purposely doesn't account for the 8 gallon reserve? 14mpg x 30gallon = 420 miles.

There are two tank sizes for the 3rd Gen Tundras, 26 and 38. If you put in 30 gallons, you cannot have a 26 gallon tank. It is well known that the low fuel light comes on when there are around 8-9 gallons left in a 38 gallon tank. Lots of threads on here about that.

Be glad you have one, I certainly am.

The computer will only ever calculate to until it reaches the reserve no matter how low you run it. Read all the posts in this thread and many others regarding the early low fuel indicator.

If you're really curious, let it run down to 0. Reset your trip A and keep driving another 50 miles or so. You'll get more than 30 gallons back in.

My previous '11 Tundra with the 26 gallon did the same thing. The low light would come on and I'd only get about 20 gallons back in.

I noticed my low fuel light didn't come on the other day and I had ~30 miles remaining with the dial indicator on E. I was only able to put in 28.108 gal in it so I could have went another 148 miles or so before running out of gas pretty much. To me, empty is empty...as in totally empty...I wish the dial indicator and computer would read it this way, but I guess they want to be sure folks get gas.

okay i now believe everyone. After my low fuel light came on i reset the trip odometer and drove another 40 miles. The 'miles to empty' was past zero and would only say "low Fuel" (or something similar). I put in 32 gallons. the Fuel gauge was level with the E. most vehicles i have ever own the needle will drop below the E... so i suppose this all makes sense.

I was at out in the woods when the light came on and display said about 20 miles till empty. Having read this tread I was not too worried, but just a little since I might have got the "accurate" truck. Took it easy to the gas station and got there with 0 on the miles to empty. Managed to put 29.2 gallons in.

That was with the nose a little high the way the station was angled, which got me wondering if there is a difference in the ability to fill a truck completely up. based on the angle it sits. Can those with trucks with a leveled lift get more or less gas in the tank. I haven't looked at the relation of the tank to fuel input.

Get on the ground and look under your driver's side of the truck. If the tank looks like a big black body bag, then it's 38gal. ;)

Just filled up today. Range was down to 5 miles. Gas gauge was even with the “E” empty mark. Gas light wasn’t even on yet. Filled up with 31.9 gallons. Seems to work out that we do indeed have a 6 gallon “reserve” the range calculator and gas gauge ignores in the 38 gallon tank.

Man thank goodness for this thread and comments. I just filled up when it said 20 miles to empty. Didn’t even come close to 38g fill up. I looked at my purchase sticker to confirm larger tank and was thinking I may have got ripped off

2 things: 1) you don't want run completely out of gas for you will be stuck and 2) you MAY burn up your "submerged" fuel pump running the tank nearly dry. I do not know this from experience. I have read many threads on the subject and techs have commented that it can be an expensive lesson to run that low. I would just be cautious about running to low. Myself, I am a bit bummed my 2015 SR5 only has the 26 gallon tank and not the 38, for the range when towing. I am not bummed at the pump when CA prices are around $ 4.00 per gallon. Love my truck though!

The price per gallon doesn’t really matter when it comes to tank size. You’re gonna put the same amount of money into fuel cost at the end of the month regardless of tank size.

Has anyone actually ran out of gas? I would like to see if someone would go out with a 5 gal can and run it until it runs out. Put the 5 gal in and then go fill up.
my last fill up was 33.6 gal, I drove 25 miles past "0 miles left".

Thanks for posting that. I have no doubt I have a 38 gal tank. It's good to know you have a big reserve on these trucks. I can easily drive 500 miles on one tank if needed.
