New owner for close to a month and noticed that after when the low fuel warning light comes on and the mileage countdown goes to zero, I still can only put 33 gallons in it. Is this normal?

So we need someone to run out of gas :bananadead: and then fuel up and fill it. I vote not it.

Absolute myth, just look at the fuel pump assembly and how it sits in the tank and you'll see why

So a buddy of mine bought a new Tundra with the 38 gallon tank. He ignores the low fuel light a few days. You guessed it....ran out of gas. He calls me laughing and says well I guess the gauge is accurate. Took two gallons to crank his truck. Moral of this story: never get too busy to forget to put gas in your truck. I had flashbacks of Kramer on Seinfeld test driving episode.

Thanks for explanation. The fuel pump must be in the stock gas tank as well and displacing volume

Ditto, I regularly go 100 miles after DTE reads 0 and still only put 34-35 gallons in.

Louisiana. Took that pic last year. It's gone up to about $2.25 per gallon now. Still pretty good compared to other states.

This is actually far and away my least favorite thing about the Tundra. 38 gallon fuel tank but when your DTE hits 0 you still get about 70 miles out of it. Problem is no one is going to take that chance unless they ride with a 5 gallon gas can in their bed, so they may as well have not bothered increasing the tank size.

Wait...so you're telling me that my low fuel warning comes on at 20 gallons?!?! What about my other 6 gallons?!?! I'm trading it in and getting a Honda Ridgeline or Chevy Avalanche.

Would anyone prefer that the low fuel warning come on when there is only one gallon left in reserve? Gas stations are more than 15 miles apart where I live, and a lot farther than that some places where I drive. My other cars and trucks all had at least 50 miles of fuel in the tank when the gauge read empty. Even my motorcycle has a 50 mile reserve.

Picture was taken Dec 10, 2018. Most 87 octane in Texas was at least that low then. It's around $2.44 now.
